Mervin, "King Mario of Cramalot"

Mervin, also known as Mervin the magician, is a powerful magician and inhabitant and apparently the protector of the kingdom of Cramalot. He is named after the wizard of Arthurian legend Merlin.

History[edit]

In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "King Mario of Cramalot," Mario and his friends travel to Cramalot in search of Mervin, who they believe can free Princess Toadstool's kingdom of King Koopa's rule.

On the road to Cramalot, Mario and his friends are attacked by a gang of Beezos; it is only through the intervention of Mervin that they are saved from the Beezos, who Mervin seemingly vaporizes with his wand. After defeating the Beezos, Mervin, along with Mario and his friends, travel to his cave, where he reveals that Koopa has taken over Cramalot.

After telling Mario and his friends of Koopa's conquest of Cramalot, Mervin reveals that whoever can pull the Golden Plumber's Helper from the Sacred Sink of Cramalot will be able to defeat King Koopa.

After revealing this, Mervin takes Mario and his friends to the town square of Cramalot, where he instructs Mario to remove the golden plunger from the Sacred Sink of Cramalot, which Mario succeeds in doing. However, as his friends celebrate him claiming the golden plunger, they are captured by King Koopa and his Koopa Troopas.

Despite using his Golden Plumber's Helper to escape a net dropped on him by Koopa's Koopa Paratroopa minions, Mario, as well as his friends, are captured by King Koopa, who also claims the golden plunger as his own.

It appears that Mervin has somehow evaded capture by King Koopa, as he later appears in the dungeon of Cramalot Castle and, using his magic wand, teleports Mario and his friends from their rapidly flooding and lowering cell. After leaving Cramalot Castle, Mervin brings them to the Forest of Perpetual Night and Terrible Dangers; in this forest, Mario discovers the legendary Excalibur, which he decides to use against King Koopa.

Later, Mervin aids Mario and his friends in their siege of Cramalot Castle, where he defeats several of Koopa's Koopa Troopa henchmen.

In the end, King Koopa is defeated by Mario, who is crowned the new king of Cramalot by Mervin; however, it turns out that the king of Cramalot has to be physically fit, meaning Mario has to go on a diet and eat healthy food to be Cramalot's king. Horrified by this prospect, Mario gives his crown to Mervin, who decides to be the kingdom's new king.
