"Motor City"[1] is the song that appears in the Super Mario World television series episode "The Wheel Thing." It plays as Mario, his friends, and the Cave People try to stop Kooky's Mega Mechanasaur from rampaging Dome City. It was composed by Michael Tavera and Monroe Michaels.[1]
This is the only song from the Super Mario World television series to have its instrumental used to dub over cover songs in re-airings of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!; all others are from The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.
The instrumental was played in place of the first instance of "Surfin' Bird" in "The Bird! The Bird!," "Chains" in "Stars in Their Eyes," "Hot Hot Hot" in "Too Hot to Handle," "I Got You (I Feel Good)" in "Bad Rap," "Rock Around the Clock" in "Elvin Lives," and "Kung Fu Fighting" in "Karate Koopa."
Lyrics[edit]
English[edit]
Everything is ready, put the pedal down
Motor... city... here we come!
I've got the fastest set of wheels in town
Motor... city... here we come!
The road is empty, every light is green
Motor... city... here we come!
Nobody can stop this awesome machine
Motor... city... here we come! (Yeah!)
Rev it up!
Just a little bit faster
Rev it up!
Just a little bit faster
Go, go, going
To Motor city! (Yeah!)
Motor... city... here we come (Motor city!)
Motor... city... here we come (Motor city!)
Rev it up!

Naming[edit]
The title of the song, "Motor City," is a reference to a nickname for Detroit, Michigan, known for being the historical center of the American automobile manufacturing industry.
Notes[edit]
- This is the only song in the Korean dub of the Super Mario World television series to not be subtitled into Korean.
- The song has an intro that goes unheard in the "The Wheel Thing" but can be heard in the instrumental used in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!.
- Additionally, by combining the most of the instrumental from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! episode "Bad Rap" with the near end of the instrumental from "The Wheel Thing," the song's actual length is revealed to be 51 seconds long.
