Mrs. Miller is a Brooklyn resident who appears in the German-exclusive Super Mario Bros. story "Der sprechende Abfluß."

History

"Die unglaubliche Erfindung"

Mrs. Miller is first mentioned at the beginning of the comic "Die unglaubliche Erfindung," where Mario, who is sleeping in a bathtub in the middle of Mario Bros. Plumbing, mentions that it is from Mrs. Miller's apartment, explaining that the drain was clogged. As he could not unclog it, he told her that he would take to his and Luigi's plumbing business.

"Der sprechende Abfluß"

In "Der sprechende Abfluß," Mrs. Miller first calls Mario and Luigi, urging them to come to her apartment, claiming that her drain has started speaking to her. Though Luigi expresses disbelief in her claim, the Mario Bros. arrive at her apartment.

Mrs. Miller later appears at her apartment, where she, still very horrified by what had transpired, urges the Mario Bros. to come into her kitchen. In the kitchen, she points to a drain in the corner of the sink, explaining that it is the drain that spoke to her. Curious, Luigi, grinning, asks what the drain said to her, to which Mrs. Miller responds that he does not need to grin, explaining that she is not crazy and is insistent that the drain spoke to her. When Luigi expresses disbelief for her claim, Mrs. Miller explains that she could not understand it very well, but that it did speak words. Luigi mentions that they will find out soon, and leans into the kitchen sink, asking if anyone is in there, though there is silence. Luigi stands back and looks around triumphantly for having seemingly refuted Mrs. Miller's claim, though she suggests that the drain does not speak to everyone.

Mario deciedes to listen to the drain homseld and pushes his brother aside, putting his ear directly into the drain. When he stands back up, there are food scraps on his right ear, which Mrs. Miller is embarassed at. Mario explains that he did hear something, explaining that he heard gurgling and burping, though Luigi grins, explaining that it is typical for a clogged drain. However, Mario adds that he also heard strumming, to which Mrs. Miller, now exhilirated, exclaims that she was correct.

However, Luigi asks Mario if there was anything to understand, to which Mario responds in the negative, explaining that the drain is clogged, and, as such, the voice cannot come out. Mario then pulls out a stethoscope to listen what the drain wants to say, with Luigi laughing at this impossibility. After listening to the drain, Mario tells Mrs. Miller that he and Luigi will clean the drain so that he can hear the voice better. However, Mrs. Miller yells that she does not want the voice, telling them that they should eliminate it, as she does not want to be afraid anymore when she pours something into it. The Mario Bros. then asks what she poured into the drain, to which Mrs. Miller responds that it is not important to them, though realizes that things that things are becoming clear to her. As Mario and Luigi unclog the drain, she wonders what she had poured into the drain, believing that she poured everything that she no longer needs into it. Suddenly, a voice from the drain exclaims, "NO POLLUTANTS IN THE DRAIN!", causing Mrs. Miller to almost faint, with Luigi having to support her. As she looks around as if search for the voice's source, Mario explains that it came from the drain. Luigi, letting go of Mrs. Miller, reminds her to nor pour pollutants into the drain, explaining that the spirit of the wastewater does not like them. She, completely confused, agrees with this.

As Mario and Luigi pack up, the latter asks if Mrs. Miller's husband does not pour old oil down the drain, to which she hesistantly responds in the negative. The Mario Bros. then say goodbye to her, with Mario adding that she should not throw away old batteries; otherwise her garbage might start talking to her as well.
