World 5-1 (Chapter 5-1 in Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic; titled This is a Matter of Life and Death–Jump![1]) is the first level of World 5 in Super Mario Bros. 2.

Layout[edit]

This level starts in the outside, but the rest of the stage takes place underground. There is an extremely long waterfall that can initially be passed through the falling wooden platforms, then by jumping from Trouter to Trouter with strict timings. This is the first level in the game where the fire-shooting Green Birdo is fought, though it appears gray in the original due to palette limitations.

  • The first one is above the right edge of the low platform directly after the floating platform where the 1 UP mushroom and the Magic Potion are. It drops down after spawning in mid-air.
  • The second one is in a ceiling alcove on top of the right mushroom block before the door leading to the Green Birdo fight. In order to obtain it, the player must use a preceding log to jump above the top of the screen, "uncork" the right mushroom block to drop down, and then let it fall to the ground while in Sub-space.
