The Spirit of Flatbush is a sailboat appearing in the Super Mario Bros. comic "Beauty and the Beach." The boat features a sail with the words "Little Plunger" written on it, with a plunger over an orange circle.
At the beginning of the comic, Mario, Princess Toadstool, and Toad have been looping in erratic directions while sailing on The Spirit of Flatbush, with Toad feeling extremely seasick. Toadstool asks some nearby Trouters for directions but makes the mistake of calling them "fishy fishies," with the Trouters, insulted, beginning to destroy the boat. The boat is then caught in a wave, which washes Mario and his friends up onto an island. They tie the partially destroyed boat to a palm tree as a Mushroom person named Moonfungie walks up to them. While the boat is no longer seen after this, after Mario and his friends stop the volcano on the island from erupting, Toad mentions that they will have to get back on "that little boat" soon.
Naming[edit]
The Spirit of Flatbush's name is a pun on "Spirit of St. Louis," which is a plane famous for making the first nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean, and "Flatbush," Mario's hometown in the live-action segments of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!
