A Cloud Nine Mattress is a type of bed appearing in the Super Mario Bros. comic "Cloud Nine." Like the comic's title, the bed is named after the phrase "cloud nine," a phrase referring to happiness or satisfaction.
After sacking the salesman working at Snooze World in a bag, a disguised Wart suggests that King Toadstool should try a Cloud Nine Mattress, as his old mattress is very lumpy. The king expresses interest in the mattress, and Wart leads him into an elevator before telling a Pidgit to announce a fake sale on plumbing supplies to distract Mario and Luigi.
After arriving in the clouds, Wart leads the king to the "cumulo-nimbus special," a bed-shaped cloud that he guarantees will have the king sleeping "like a little prince." When King Toadstool tries the bed and begins to fall asleep, Wart excuses himself, claiming he is going to get the paperwork. However, when the king falls asleep, the bed begins moving through the air, passing over a town and concidentally Mario and Luigi. As they bemoan the loss of the king, they notice his loud snoring and the shadow cast by the bed, which begins releasing thunder, lightning, and rain. As Wart watches in the bushes in anticipation, the king's bed ruins a picnic, before moving on to the castle, where Princess Toadstool and a servant, who are hanging laundry, are drenched in the rain, as Wart laughs hysterically at their humiliation nearby.
The Mushroom People begin protesting outside the castle, angered by the poor weather the king is unknowingly causing. Mario and Luigi catch up to the sleeping monarch in a biplane, and after Luigi maneuvers the plane under the cloud, Mario climb onto the top wing, and starts working to stop the poor weather with his plumbing equipment. He is successful in turning off the bed's poor weather, and the Mushroom People celebrate. The king is then brought down and put to bed by Mario and Luigi.
