The Mona Mushroom is a painting appearing in the Super Mario Bros. comic "Tanooki Suits Me." It is the highlight of the art exhibits featured at the Mushroom Castle's Royal Art Gallery and was painted by the artist Da Fungi. During the comic, King Toadstool presents the Mona Mushroom to some patrons, along with the other exhibits in the Royal Art Gallery. Later, after everyone else leaves the art gallery, two Mousers steal all of the paintings and statues in the art gallery, including the Mona Mushroom, to sell them to King Koopa, who plans on selling the artwork to Wart for a higher profit. The Mona Mushroom, along with the rest of the artwork, is later retrieved by Mario, who, wearing a Tanooki Suit and having turned into a statue, was also stolen by the Mousers.

Naming[edit]

The Mona Mushroom's appearance and name are based on the Mona Lisa, while its artist, Da Fungi, is a reference to the Mona Lisa's painter, Leonardo da Vinci.
