The Super Mario Bros. 2 Gift Set are a set of View-Master reels based on the Super Mario franchise, released in 1989.[1] The set comes with a 3-D viewer, along with three reels containing 21 3-D pictures. Though the set is advertised as Super Mario Bros. 2, the set actually contains images of live-action segments from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, along with the first cartoon segment of the show, "The Bird! The Bird!". The reels were also sold separately.[1]

Differences from the episode[edit]
- The characters' designs are drawn more faithfully to their artwork from Super Mario Bros. 2. Because of this, several differences are present between the cartoon episode and its illustrated adaptation:
- Mario and Luigi's hair is colored brown instead of black. While Mario's hair would become brown starting with The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "Princess Toadstool for President", Luigi's hair remains black throughout all of the DIC cartoons.
- Toad's color scheme more reflects his color scheme starting with the episode "Mario's Magic Carpet", as opposed to color scheme featured in the episode. However, his vest is colored blue instead of red; his pants are a darker blue, and his shoes are colored brown instead of purple.
- Both the Giant Birdo and Cheepy are depicted with bows in the illustrated adaptation; in the cartoon episode, only the Giant Birdo has one. The Giant Birdo also lacks the glasses she has in the episode.
- King Koopa's design is heavily based on that of Wart's, with a cape, amulet, and white underbelly. His shackles are also colored yellow with black spikes as opposed to black with orange spikes.
- The Bob-ombs' sclerae are colored white instead red, while their feet are colored pink instead of black. The Bob-ombs are also drawn with visible pupils.
- The Koopa Troopas are depicted as quadrupedal instead of bipedal.
- The Princess's sleigh has a slightly different design between the cartoon and the adaptation. The back of the sleigh is colored brown instead of purple, while the front of the sleigh is filled in.
- Cheepy's scarf is colored purple instead of red.
- Mario is shown assisting the Giant Birdo with throwing the Turnips at King Koopa's army alongside Toad, which does not happen in the actual episode.
- The worm is colored green instead of tan.
- The description on the back of the box includes lines which are not spoken in the actual episode. The back of the box also spells Cheepy's name as "Cheepie" and refers to the Giant Birdo as simply "Birdo".
Notable mistakes and errors[edit]
- In the last image, Mario is depicted with his modern colors (red shirt and blue overalls) as opposed to the colors he had at the time (blue shirt and red overalls). The latter color scheme is what is also seen on artwork from Super Mario Bros. 2.

"It's a magic fire flower[sic], Mario," screams the Princess. "Touch it!" And Mario becomes Super Mario who gets them out of the cave by flinging fireballs. Of course, King Koopa hears of our heroes' escape. This time Koopa himself leads the attack of his flying Albatosses! What can Super Mario do to help his friends?
