eBay (frequently styled as ebay) is an e-commerce company founded in 1995. In addition to Super Mario–franchise products being sold on eBay, eBay has officially partnered with Nintendo to promote the Super Mario franchise on more than one occasion.
Promotions[edit]
In 2002, eBay held a contest by the name of "Giganto-Saurus Back to School Sweepstakes". A promotional CD-ROM was given out at Cinemark that detailed the sweepstakes, in addition to providing some information on the contest's sponsors. One of said sponsors was Nintendo, and the included media for Nintendo is a pre-release trailer for Super Mario Sunshine. Additionally, Mario is shown on the CD-ROM's disk, despite only appearing in said video.
13 years later, Nintendo of Europe and eBay held an official auction of a set of 10 Super Mario–themed overalls as part of the Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary celebration. Various designers released content as part of the collection, including Giles Deacon, Henry Holland, Zandra Rhodes, Marques Almeida, Markus Lupfer, Peter Jensen, Gary Card, Charlie May, Charlie Casely-Hayford, and Digital Fairies. Each pair of overalls featured a unique design. For instance, Giles Deacon's overalls featured a Spiny, and Henry Holland's featured 1-Up Mushrooms. The overalls were first put up for sale on eBay on September 7, 2015. All proceeds from the auction went to the Starlight Children's Foundation. The auction ended on September 24, 2015.
