“Now, this here is what we call a Dune Bud. Dune Buds are odd plants that appear only on this beach. If you water them, strange things will happen.”
Dune Buddy, Super Mario Sunshine

Dune Buddy[1] is a Noki expert on the Dune Buds that appears in Super Mario Sunshine. He is a tanned male Noki with a yellow-and-brown striped shell. He appears on Gelato Beach, near the Sand Cabana, explaining the Dune Buds to Mario.

In Episode 1, Dune Buddy explains how the Dune Buds work. In Episode 2, he suggests that he can use the watered Dune Buds to reach higher places. In Episode 3, he tries to protect the Dune Buds from the angered Wiggler in the middle of the beach. In Episode 4, he is back at the Sand Cabana, relieved that Wiggler is gone. In Episode 5, Dune Buddy waits at the finish line with the other characters. In Episode 6, he still insists that Mario keep watering the buds. In Episode 7, he yells at Mario not to step on the Dune Buds. Finally, in Episode 8, Dune Buddy takes part in the Watermelon Festival, claiming to have the biggest watermelon as long as nobody else comes with a bigger one.
