First appearance | Super Mario (Super Mario Land 4) (1990) |
Torino Daiō is Bowser's fourth and last alter-ego in the Super Mario Land manga miniseries of the KC Deluxe series, during the events of the last two chapters of the fourth issue. With the story set in the year 2159, Bowser is old (with visible mouth wrinkles in the second chapter) and the ruler of Reticulon. In battle, he wears a giant armor resembling a giant robot rooster with one eye, possibly to better blend with the bird people of Reticulon. Later, towards the end of the story, his suit is upgraded with superalloy, but apart from the imposing metallic appearance and different wings, he doesn't seem to have any other differences. A hole in the rooster's body leaves his head exposed (and in the second chapter, his arms are also outside the suit).
In 2159, Torino Daiō uses the Reticulon Army to attack the Earth, prompting it to use the Federation Army's spaceship, the SolarStriker against the invaders, located to the Moon military base. Mario and Princess Peach's descendants, Marīo and Pichi-hime, are instructed to operate the SolarStriker, but on their way to the hangar, Torino Daiō attempts to stomp them under his foot, but a fortuitous time portal, makes the two soldiers and Torino Daiō's legs fall in the 20th century, in front of Mario and Luigi. Torino Daiō blind catches the ancestors and drags them back to the future. Having brought also Peach's homade Saint Valentine chocolate, this evolves (due to the time portal) in a shapeshifting being that startles Torino Daiō, who drop them. After the heroes departs, Torino Daiō destroys the lunar base and kidnaps Āreku Taichō.
Being mistaken for their descendants, Mario and Peach operates the SolarStriker to defeat Torino Daiō's army. Torino Daiō is then seeing giving orders to his soldiers, only to be disappointed when, one by one, they all fall to the SolarStriker. After his entire army gets destroyed, Torino Daiō tries to use a holographic machine to trick Mario into thinking he has to redo the mission from scratch, but his trick is accidentally discovered. He tries then to beat the heroes with his upgraded suit, squashing Marīo into the ground, but Mario uses the shapeshifting chocolate as a Lightsaber and slice the suit in half, leaving the Bowser exposed. He accepts defeat, releases Āreku and leaves, surprising Mario and Peach for the fact that he is going to live this long.
