Rexons are plesiosaurian robots created by Dr. Eggman that first appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Their only appearance in the Super Mario franchise is in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, where they are only encountered in the Tokyo Sky Flight, being encountered in only two stages—Stages 2 and 3. In this minigame, they take their sprite-based appearance derived from their sprites in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, only several times larger in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. As a result, Rexons' size take up most of the screen's height. They attack the Tornado that Mario is controlling by firing energy balls from their mouths. They also pose an ever-encroaching threat, since the screen scrolls forward automatically. Any of the Tornado's armaments can defeat them; if damaged repeatedly, 1,000 points are rewarded.
