Plot synopsis[edit]
The comic begins by the narrator recapping that, after his victory over King K. Rool in Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong was relaxing in his hammock. The now-abandoned Gangplank Galleon was now the perfect hideout to escape from Cranky Kong dozing off, still with the last banana's taste on his tongue. However, he suddenly hears a noise, and turning around, discovered that, sometimes, nice days can end poorly.
The comic then cuts to Donkey Kong bound by rope aboard the Gangplank Galleon, with Kaptain K. Rool taunting him that he made the mistake of believing he had defeated him and the Kremlings. Donkey Kong notes that no-one knows where he is and that he has to come up with something quickly. Suddenly, a Kritter informs K. Rool that their scouts have spotted two monkey stowaways aboard the ship, with K. Rool telling him to sound the alarm.
The monkeys, revealed to be Diddy and Dixie Kong, are on their way to the hideout, with the former noting that the place has been turned upside-down and the latter noting that the Donkey Kong has disappeared. In the Kaptain's cabin, Diddy notes that they have to look everywhere and to keep an eye out for clues. Suddenly, Diddy finds a scroll, which reads that the Kremlings have captured Donkey Kong and are demanding the Kongs' entire banana hoard as ransom. After reading the scroll, Diddy slams it on the ground, exclaiming that he hopes that K. Rool's teeth will fall off his face. Dixie notes that they have to help Donkey Kong, explaining that no-one but them knows what happened to him. The two spring from the cabin, exclaiming that they will give the Kremlings what they deserve.
The two run into a Neek, who wishes to have the Kongs as food. Frightened by the Neek, Diddy and Dixie jump into the air and land on it, with the Neek commenting that it is too much for it bear. Diddy and Dixie realize that, together, they are unbeatable, and the two jump on some more Neeks as the latter comments that rats can only stare when monkeys jump through the air.
Diddy and Dixie then run into a Klobber, who claims that it will knock them around until they are confused. The two monkeys then begin throwing crates and barrels at the Klobber, forcing it to flee, with it commenting that it should flee before it becomes any worse. As the two monkeys laugh, Diddy and Dixie come across an Animal Crate, which has Rambi inside. Finding Rambi, Diddy notes that he is onto the Kremlings' scheme as well. He and Dixie then ride Rambi through hordes of Kremlings as the latter comments that she could get used to this. She then explains to the reader that K. Rool's influence has spread throughout the island, so they occasionally need the help of their Animal Buddies.
Diddy and Dixie follow the Kremlings to the ship's mast. Looking for more clues, they realize they must climb the mast. As the two climb the mast, Diddy tells Dixie to not look down, though she responds that it is already too late. A Klinger spots the two monkeys and explains that the mast is not a place for them, telling them to leave. When the Kongs flee, the Klinger demands them to stop. However, Diddy and Dixie manage to flee the Klinger, and the Klinger, knowing better than to try an jump after them, decides that he did not see anything. Having fled from the Klinger, Diddy comments that courage pays off.
Suddenly, a Zinger and a Flitter spot the Kongs. Diddy jumps on the Flitter and prepares to land on the Zinger, saying that he will show them who the "lord of the skies" is. However, he lands on one of the Zinger's stingers, injuring his foot. Dixie grabs him, telling him not to be so audacious. The Zinger taunts the two, saying that he will show them his stings and that they should play with him, though Dixie exclaims that he should not be so audacious, exclaiming that they will find a way to defeat him. However, Dixie, flying off with Diddy while using her Helicopter Spin, saying that, for now, he should find someone else to play with and learn how to speak properly.
Near the top of the mast, Dixie tells Diddy that he should be more careful next, with him responding that he probably was a little irresponsible. Suddenly, a large egg falls near the two Kongs, and the two spot Krow, who asks them what they are doing here. He then demands them to return home, or else he will flatten them with his eggs. After Krow launches another egg at the two monkeys, Diddy realize that, with a little skill, he can catch the egg and throw it back at Krow. As the egg bounces on the crossbeam, Diddy manages to grab the egg and throws it at Krow, defeating him.
After defeating Krow, Diddy comments that they taught him a lesson, but does not know where he and Dixie should go next; Dixie responds that she does not know either, but suggests that they can go back down, saying that they may find a trail. Suddenly, Cranky Kong tells them to come into the storage deck. Inside the storage deck, Cranky guesses that Diddy and Dixie left to rescue Donkey Kong unprepared. The two hesitating, Cranky informs them there are some individuals who are willing to help them, but will charge them for their services, telling to be aware of Banana Coins inside levels.
At Crocodile Cauldron, Diddy notes that things are going well, but does not where to go; Dixie tells him to continue walking, saying that they will find a way. She then continues by explaining that they would receive some help at Crocodile Cauldron and that they should look for it. Suddenly, a cannonball rolls past the two Kongs; the cannonball, revealed to have been fired from a Kannon, then fires more cannonballs at them. Diddy tells Dixie to get down as the cannonballs fly towards them. Diddy then jumps on the Kannon, defeating him. Dixie then comments that attacks from the front are not always the best way.
Later, Diddy and Dixie are scaling the mountain and come across an Arrow Barrel. After Dixie comments that arrow indicates a way, she then enters the barrel, being blasted upward. Using more Arrow Barrels, she scales the mountain, telling Diddy to follow her as he asks her if she is going the right way. He then enters a Bonus Barrel, believing it to be an Arrow Barrel, only to be sent into a bonus room. Cranky then explains that he ended up in a bonus room by chance, explaining that one can find a bonus room by jumping into a Bonus Barrel or by using a cannon. Diddy is excited by this, saying that the bonus room can improve their chances in rescuing Donkey Kong.
Suddenly, Diddy is hit by a hook injuring his face; the hook, revealed to have been launched from a Krook, says that there is no way past him. Dixie tells him to be more careful before jumping towards the Krook, saying that he should not injure "her boyfriend". As the Krook taunts the two monkeys by saying that jumping will not help them, Diddy throws a TNT Barrel at him, which explodes in his face, defeating him.
Later, Diddy and Dixie are sitting on a blue rock shaped like a balloon. Diddy laments that the "balloon ride" is "dull", due to the lack of action, though the Dixie tells him that things will "pick up". Suddenly, two Krockheads and Klampons approach the two Kongs, intending to eat them. Diddy jumps on the Klampons as Dixie uses her ponytail to throw a Click-Clack at a treasure chest while commenting at the large number of enemies. Diddy then mounts her back, and Dixie throws him at a Kruncha. Suddenly, Kleever emerges from the lava, asking who violated his privacy before seeing Diddy and Dixie. He then launches a fireball at the two, and the two monkeys run away from the fireball, with Diddy commenting that he does not want to be roasted. While running away from Kleever, Diddy spots a cannonball, and, though struggling to carry the ball, manages to throw it at Kleever. Kleever, revealed to have an iron allergy, says that they will pay before falling into the lava, saying that he will defeat them next time. The two heroes then arrive in Krem Quay.
Running across a dock, Dixie asks Diddy if they are going the right way, to which Diddy replies in the affirmative. Suddenly, a voice tells them to stop, and the voice, revealed to be Kloak, throws barrels at them. The two Kong run from the barrels and dive into the water; however they find that danger is present in the water as well. Swimming through the ship alongside Glimmer, Dixie comments that it is very murky here. Suddenly, a Lockjaw appears, commenting that the "desert" has arrived; when Diddy comments that it is hungry, it replies that quick swimming whets one's appetite. A Shuri and Puftup then appear, hoping to have some food as well as Diddy wonders if anyone here is interested in dieting. Diddy then insults the Puftup, saying that it should be at a beauty parlor, and the Puftup, offended begins inflating itself, explaining that no-one speaks to it that way. It then explodes, releasing spikes that defeat the Lockjaw and Shuri as Diddy and Dixie escape.
Diddy and Dixie eventually reach dry land, with the former helping the latter onto the pier. Suddenly, a large club strikes the ground near Diddy and Dixie; the club, revealed to have been struck by Kudgel, explains that he will not let them through, explaining that K. Rool calls them evil and then he does not like evil. Diddy suggests that they should talk about his nutrition, but Kudgel is not interested, wanting to smash them with his club. Diddy then throws a TNT Barrel at Kudgel, but it does not do anything except enrage him. Diddy then tosses another TNT Barrel, which dazes him until he passes out. Diddy notes that K. Rool is now being serious in defeating, to which Dixie notes that they need to be careful. The two heroes then head to Krazy Kremland.
Walking into Krazy Kremland, Dixie comments that they have found a fun fair, though Diddy wonders if it will actually be fun. Riding a Roller Coaster, Diddy hopes that they are not a bad omen, though Dixie tells to enjoy the ride. The Roller Coaster travels down the tracks, with Diddy commenting that it is intense. Suddenly, Diddy spots a Zinger, telling Dixie to watch out. The two dodge the Zinger as Diddy holds onto the Roller Coaster while Dixie comments that it is "child's play". The two Kongs continue riding the Roller Coaster, with Diddy struggling onto it and, at one point, the two fighting with a Klank for control of the track. At the end of the ride, Dixie is exhilarated, though Diddy feels ill.
Suddenly, Dixie spots some giant hives in the distance, and the she and Diddy enter the hives. Inside a hive, Diddy and Dixie are climbing the hive until Dixie lands on some honey dripping from some honeycombs. Suddenly, Squawks arrives and grabs the two monkeys in his talons, with Diddy complimenting him for helping them, explaining that he spared Dixie hours at the hair salon. A Kutlass and a Spiny spot the two, but Squawks spits eggs at them, defeating them. Suddenly, the Zinger from before, having grown into King Zing, appears, noting that they have returned and that they now have time to play with him, releasing some stingers, though Diddy explains that they do not, telling him to leave, which he immediately does. Surprised by this, Diddy notes that they must be very lucky and bids farewell to Squawks, who is in shock that King Zing believed Diddy.
In Gloomy Gulch, Diddy and Dixie find themselves in front of a deep chasm. Suddenly, Diddy spots some ropes, noting that they are everywhere and that they will be on the other side in no time. Dixie uses the ropes, noting that she feels that something is strange about the ropes. Diddy, believing that she is imagining things, grabs a rope, only to notice that they are dissolving into thin air. With this, Diddy frantically makes it to the other side. After making it to the other side, Diddy shakes in fear as Dixie notes that it could have ended in disaster.
Later, in a windy part of Gloomy Gulch, Diddy notes that it is very drafty out here, suggesting that someone left a door open. Suddenly, a voice calls out to them, frightening them. The voice, revealed to be a Kutlass, exclaims that he is K. Rool's executioner and a double-bladed master, saying that they should fear him. Though Diddy initially relieved, the Kutlass realizes that he is not taking him seriously and begins attacking him with his swords, saying that he will show him how to slice a monkey into pieces. However, Diddy dodges him, resulting in him getting his swords stuck into the ground. When Diddy asks him where his swords are, the Kutlass tells him to wait until he gets his swords out of the ground, saying that he will make mincemeat of him. However, Dixie says that they cannot wait that long and stomps on his head.
Later, in fog, Dixie notes that, if they continue wandering aimlessly, Donkey Kong will die of old age, with Diddy suggesting that they should hurry. The two decide to race each other, with Diddy claiming that he will not lose to Dixie. However, the two lose each other, and a voice exclaims that they finally caught them. The two monkeys are revealed to have been caught in an explosion, with both not remembering what happened to them. A Zinger and a Kaboom, exclaiming that, no matter the world's size, they will find them. The two Kongs run away as the Zinger and Kaboom exclaim that they will always catch them.
Far away from the Zinger and Kaboom, Diddy complains that he cannot feel his legs anymore, though Dixie reminds that complaining will not help him, explaining that they have to continue looking for Donkey Kong. Dixie then spots a ship, concluding that K. Rool cannot be very far from them. Climbing up to its crow's nest, Diddy complains about the rain, when a giant egg falls towards them; dodging this egg, Diddy and Dixie continue dodging more eggs hurled at them. Krow, alongside two Mini-Neckys, appear, with the former expressing gratitude for their and explaining that their time has come. Diddy is tired of Krow and tosses barrels at him, defeating him. The two flee the ship, with Diddy saying that he is tired of it.
Later, as Diddy apologizes for his behavior back at the ship, he and Dixie spot K. Rool's Keep. As Diddy and Dixie run to the castle, the former slips, falling on his back. After this mishap, the two make their way into and through the castle, defeating any enemies along the way.
Meanwhile, Donkey Kong is lamenting of how he let himself be tricked by Kaptain K. Rool. He laments that he acted like an amateur, fearing Cranky punishing him for his imprudence. However, Donkey Kong realizes that he actually hears Diddy and calls out to them as they climb the stairs of the castle. Reaching the top of the castle, Diddy spots Donkey Kong, who is being carried away by K. Rool as flees via The Flying Krock, expressing exasperation of them wanting to save him before demanding the location of the banana hoard. The comic ends with Diddy singing a rap as Dixie plays an electric guitar. In the rap, Diddy explains that he and Diddy will defeat K. Rool, who kidnapped Donkey Kong as ransom for the the Kongs to hand over the banana hoard to him.
