Plot synopsis[edit]

In Bowser's Castle, Baby Bowser is throwing a tantrum as he tired of the lack of color inside and around his castle, demanding the Toadies to do something about it. Kamek appears, informing him that Yoshi's Island shines all colors of the rainbow, saying that all they have to do is suck up the colors. Baby Bowser finds this to be a good idea, and demands that he steal the colors from the island with the Suckolorus. Kamek then flies off, with the Suckolorus in hand.

Arriving at the island, Kamek complains that the Suckolorus makes feel like a janitor before beginning to suck all of the colors from the island. With all of its colors stripped the away, the island, alongside its surroundings, are left in monochrome. Kamek then flies away from Yoshi's Island and returns to Baby Bowser's castle, where he tranfers the colors to the castle, coloring it alongside its surroundings. Baby Bowser is pleased by his now colorful castle, claiming that he can see a thousand colors.

Meanwhile, on the now monochrome Yoshi's Islands, six Yoshis hatch from their eggs. Soon after hatching, the Yoshis remark on how strange the island looks without its color. Suddenly, a Lakitu arrives, and after introducing himself, explains that Baby Bowser has stolen all of the colors from the island to paint his castle. He also adds that there is only one way to break the curse on the island: They must bring happiness to the island. The Lakitu explains that this is why he is prescribing a course of fruit therapy to the Yoshis, saying that their mood will improve when they eat the fruits. The six Yoshis then run off to a local market, where they proceed to cause chaos by eating many fruits from the market. After eating the fruits, the fruits at the market regain their color.

After eating the fruits, the Yoshis find themselves full from the fruits and rest against a tree, though the Lakitu notes that there is no time, telling them to think of the missing colors. He then continues by explaining that only the fruits have become colorful, saying that their next job is to do something for the people, explaining that this is why he has booked a spot for them on the soap opera Annette, hosted by Club Nintendo editor Annette Bernert. When Red Yoshi asks why, he explains that, on Yoshi's Island, she is more popular than Ellen and Oprah combined, moving the audience to tears with her heartbreaking stories. Annette is successful with the Yoshis, as, after only a short interview, the viewers are so heartfelt by the Yoshis' story that tears start flowing from their eyes, resulting in them regaining their color.

The Lakitu congratulates the Yoshis for their effort, explaining that it is now time for them to restore the environment. He then suggests the Yoshis perform and open-air concert, to which they agree, deciding to call it the Happy Happening. The concert not only attracts thousands of attendees, it is also broadcast throughout the island, including Bowser's Castle.

At Bowser's Castle, Baby Bowser is eating a cheeseburger and turns on the TV, which is playing the Happy Happening; not finding the concert amusing, he suddenly notices that his burger has lost is color before noticing that all of his colors are disappearing. He then exclaims that it must be because of the Happy Happening, demanding that Kamek fly him to the concert. As Kamek flies him to the concert, suggesting that they should allow the Yoshis to have their fun, Baby Bowser exclaims that they stole his burger's color, explaining that it is no longer delicious.

Meanwhile, at the Happy Happening, the concert is very successful, with the audience enjoying the concert and cheering the Yoshis on. However, Kamek and Baby Bowser arrive at the concert and attempts to suck up the Yoshis' color, but the audience is enraged by this, telling them to allow them to continue performing their concert while throwing fruit to the Yoshis. The fruit provides a force field against Kamek's spell, frustrating Baby Bowser. Kamek, enjoying the music, flies away from the concert, enraging Baby Bowser, before accidentally dropping him from his broom. Baby Bowser then lands in a clown's cannon, who then shoots him off into space as he exclaims that he will return.

The comic ends with the narrator explaining that the Yoshis brought the color back to their island and that Baby Bowser is in orbit, explaining that even Kamek began to celebrate with all of the happy people. Yoshi then concludes that the moral of the story is to eat fruit, saying that it is "cool".
