A Bigbee[1] (generically referred to by Nintendo Power as a big bee)[2] is an enemy in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. These Beebees are found exclusively in the Tree Zone (Bee Hive Course only). They act like Suu from Super Mario Land, dropping when Mario is nearby before slowly flying back up. Only a Star can defeat a Bigbee.

Fat person who loves to eat

They are friends of the Beebees, but they love to eat and hate to be physically active. They are always lurking on the ceiling, trying to crush intruders who enter the beehive with their heavy weight.

Naming

Etymology

Unlike most mainline Super Mario titles, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins did not receive officially localized enemy indexes at the time of its release on the Game Boy and not all enemies are listed in its instruction booklets. Consequentially, most available non-Japanese names come from localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia. The only exception is the German name listed below. The English edition of the encyclopedia refers to the enemy as "Buichi,"[4] a romanization of its Japanese name and comparable to the name of its article on Super Mario Wiki from 2013 to 2022, "Būichi."

Names in other languages

Language Name Meaning Notes
Japanese ブーイチ[5][6]
Būichi
Possibly from「ブーン」(būn, "buzz") and the name-ending「~イチ」(-ichi); may incorporate「デブ」(debu, "fat") and「ハチ」(hachi, "bee")
French Bouboule[7] From bouboule (slang for fat person); possibly evoking abeille ("bee")
German Große Biene[8] Large Bee
Italian Calabrone[9] Bumblebee
Spanish Bûichi[10] Romanization of the Japanese name
