Cranes[1] are objects found exclusively in the Crane Course in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. They are claw machines, the same ones as that of the Mario Catcher minigame, that grab Mario and carry him over pits full of Spike Traps. While grabbed by a Crane, Mario is still able to walk around the claw area and even fall off of it.
In Super Mario Land 2 - 6-tsu no Kinka 2, the Three Little Pigheads use a Crane to trap Mario when he enters their lair. Hung to the ceiling and unable to free himself, the Pigheads pummel him until the Bear turns off the power in the Mario Zone and Mario is freed.
In Volume 7 of Super Mario-kun, while traversing the Crane Course, Mario lets himself be carried by a Crane over the spike pits, but Carrot touches a lever, causing Mario to be slammed against every one and on a Spike Trap, hurting him.
