Wonder Piranhas are a gigantic Piranha Plants in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Their head and stem are both black, with lime green astroid-shaped spots on its head, as well as leafier stems than regular Piranha Plants. They are created by Castle Bowser using Wonder power in the opening cutscene, and he creates more of them throughout the game.
In the original game, they appear exclusively in the overworld coiled around levels or world gateways, and require a specific amount of Wonder Seeds from its own world to eliminate, turning them back into normal Piranha Plants. All palaces are protected by two Wonder Piranhas at once, though this is only aesthetic.
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park, Wonder Piranhas appear as enemies and background elements in Iggy's Showdown!. They emerge from the ground and may rest idly after settling into place or continuously chomp, similarly to the Piranha Creepers in Super Mario Maker 2. The heads of idle Wonder Piranhas can be safely jumped on. In the battle against Iggy, the player must jump across their heads to damage him when they are summoned. Iggy also sits inside the mouth of a Wonder Piranha throughout the battle, and several of them border the arena while chomping in an alternating pattern.
