King Scuttlebug is the main antagonist and final boss of the Adventure mode in Mario Tennis Fever. He was originally a normal Scuttlebug, but by absorbing the power of the mysterious tree, he became more powerful, gaining the tree's secret powers, growing gigantic and changing his appearance to resemble a Heavy Scuttlebug. He commands an army of enemies simply called "monsters", which consists of Scuttlebugs, Brolders, Fuzzies, Dry Bones, and two Heavy Scuttlebugs.
After Waluigi and Wario attempt to steal the treasure in the ruins near the mysterious tree, they provoke King Scuttlebug, who begins to pursue them, surrounded by dark fog. After failing in their escape attempt, King Scuttlebug and two Heavy Scuttlebugs launch a powerful attack on the protagonists, transforming them into their baby versions, who then escape with the help of Toad and Donkey Kong.
King Scuttlebug is properly revealed in the Valley of the Monsters, after the two Heavy Scuttlebugs are defeated. Upon reaching the room of the mysterious tree, Bowser appears and reveals that he allied himself with King Scuttlebug to obtain the tree's power, beginning the fight against both of them.
In the battle, King Scuttlebug supports Bowser by launching several web balls from the background, which create a web on the ground upon impact. After Bowser loses some of his health, King Scuttlebug uses his power to teleport Bowser and the player to the Ice Ruins arena and disappears, leaving the players to fight only Bowser. After Bowser takes enough damage, they return to the normal arena, and King Scuttlebug reappears. This time, Bowser hides in his shell and spins, at which point King Scuttlebug leaps from the background and punches Bowser towards the player, who must return the attack four times in a row with their racket to damage King Scuttlebug. After taking damage, King Scuttlebug returns to the background and attacks in the same way as in phase one, but much faster. After Bowser takes enough damage, King Scuttlebug uses his power again and teleport the player and Bowser into the Foggy Swamp arena, leaving Bowser to fight the player alone again. After Bowser is damaged multiple times, they return to the normal arena, and King Scuttlebug appears and continues punching Bowser back at the player, who must return the attack back at him five times in a row. After he is defeated, King Scuttlebug loses his power, reverting to a normal Scuttlebug, and then flees from the arena.
With the Heavy Scuttlebugs and King Scuttlebug defeated, their original spell is reversed, returning all characters to their adult forms. The mysterious tree, which was gray in color, begins to glow gold as it regains its power, ending the Adventure mode.
