"Cheep Cheep Lagoon" is mainly lead by steelpans and marimbas, with a heavy bass instrument and percussion featuring a prominent shaker and timbales backing it. The bassline quotes "World 3 Map (Water Land)" from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Mario Kart 7 marks the first appearance of "Cheep Cheep Lagoon". A looping drum set beat is added to the instrumentation whenever the player is driving at top speed while in first place.
