Spiky Tom and Spiky John are two identical Koopatrols guarding Peach's Castle during the events of Paper Mario. They appear during Princess Peach's intermission segment before Chapter 6. Spiky Tom spots Peach as she enters the room, but is convinced by Mr. Hammer to let her participate in the 64th Trivia Quiz-Off.
During the quiz, Spiky Tom sits in the pink booth, and Spiky John in the blue booth. They will answer questions if the player does not do so in time. Certain questions will be answered by them very quickly, giving away information the player has not learned yet. Spiky John will only answer questions when Spiky Tom is in the lead and at least two points ahead of him, making it impossible for Spiky John to win.
After the quiz, both of them walk away in opposite directions, with Spiky John seemingly leaving the room while Spiky Tom remains inside. After Bowser barges into the room and spots Princess Peach, she is carried back to her room by Spiky Tom and Mr. Hammer. Neither is seen again after.
