Xylobone[1][2][3], also referred to as Xylophone Tiki[4], is a high-ranking member of the Tiki Tak Tribe. Based off of the xylophone, its name is a portmanteau of "xylophone" and "bone", referencing its trilobite-like appearance.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country Returns (3D / HD)[edit]

In Donkey Kong Country Returns and its 3DS and Nintendo Switch ports, Xylobone appears in the boss level of the Cliff world, Thugly's Highrise. After Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong meet Thugly, Xylobone arrives alongside Tiki Goons, Tiki Tanks, and Tiki Torches on a Tiki airship. Xylobone then hypnotizes Thugly to fight the Kongs before jumping off the ship to hide behind him. Once Thugly is defeated, Xylobone is left dizzy and vulnerable to attack. Attacking them and knocking them into the distance completes the level, or they can be left to recover and fly away to the same effect.

The transition for being defeated in levels of the Cliff depicts Xylobone's silhouette, except for in Time Attack mode.

In the final level of the game, Tiki Tong Terror, Xylobone and the other high-ranking members of the Tiki Tak Tribe partake in a ritual converting them into hands for Tiki Tong. The hands are destroyed in the battle.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Xylobone is mentioned in Thugly's trophy description.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Xylobone is part of the Tiki Tak Tribe spirit, which includes all of the members who hypnotize bosses in Donkey Kong Country Returns.
