"Nintendo 3DS - Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D Surprise" is a promotional video published on Nintendo of America's official YouTube channel. The video was made to promote Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, and focuses on the reactions of people at an event in which they are able to play the game to the sudden entrance of an unknown actor portraying Donkey Kong through a poster.
Synopsis[edit]
The video takes place in the Santa Monica Yacht Harbor. At the start of the video, footage of the sign for the harbor is shown, followed by an arial shot of people walking around the harbor. The video then shows a closeup shot of a DK Barrel, followed by that of the game being played on a Nintendo 3DS available at the event. The video cuts between multiple people playing the game, all of which are playing in front of a large poster framed by faux stone with Donkey Kong's emblem at the top that reads "Donkey Kong is bursting out in amazing 3D!".
A record scratch sound effect then plays, and the actor portraying Donkey Kong breaks through the poster, with a vocal clip of Donkey Kong playing as he does so. He initially scares the participants, but they start laughing once they realize what happened. The video then cuts between multiple iterations of this prank, with each group having the same reaction. One man begins filming Donkey Kong after he breaks out from behind the poster.
Audio of an interview with one of the participants is then played over more footage of iterations of the prank. The person being interviewed states that he was playing the game and "minding his own business", followed by Donkey Kong coming "out of nowhere". He then states that this was "really cool". This is followed by more footage of iterations of the prank, followed by brief interview audio of a boy who states that he was "expecting to play the game", and that "that was not all".
Donkey Kong then poses for pictures with multiple people. As he does so, interview audio of another participant plays. He states that Donkey Kong is his hero, and that he "throws barrels for a living", something that the person being interviewed says that he wished he could do.
