"Super Smash Bros. - Gameplay & Quest for the amiibo!" (also known as "amiibo with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U" on the Play Nintendo channel)[2] is a video released on Nintendo of America's and Play Nintendo's YouTube channels in 2014 to promote Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and its amiibo functionality.

Summary[edit]

Jack walks into a room where David, Gina, and Terry are scanning their amiibo figures onto a Wii U GamePad for a 6 player game of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Each of the three players has selected a Mii Fighter based on themselves, and each player is in a team with the Figure Player for their amiibo. David's character is a Mii Swordfighter and he uses a Link amiibo, Gina's character is a Mii Gunner and she has a Princess Peach amiibo, and Terry's character is a Mii Brawler and he owns a Donkey Kong amiibo. Jack says he cannot play the game, much to everyone's surprise, as he does not have an amiibo figure. David and Terry say they do not think he is ready, while Gina argues that he is ready, asking Terry if he was ready when she took his Peach amiibo away from him. Terry says that he was upset that day because he did not make it into his track team, and that it was a personal thing. Jack says he did make the track team, and Terry asks Jack to get his mother to get an amiibo so he could play with them. After Jack says goodbye to Gina, David asks why he said goodbye only to Gina and not them, with Terry commenting that Jack and Gina could make for a nice relationship.

At the store, Jack goes to the amiibo section, where he finds the Link amiibo David has. He spots the Mario amiibo afterwards and starts thinking of him and Gina together just like Mario and Peach. With "Course Clear" from Super Mario Bros. playing in the background, Jack grabs the Mario amiibo, says "I'm in", and walks away.

Determined, Jack returns to David, Terry, and Gina. Jack's Mii Fighter, a Mii Swordfighter, is already added to the game. Jack places the Mario amiibo on the Wii U GamePad, putting a Mario Figure Player in the game as the 8th player. However, as Mario was just purchased, he is only level 1 whereas everyone else's Figure Players are at the maximum level of 50. When the battle starts, Mario is the first to be KOd, specifically through one of David's attacks, and David and Link end up winning the game. Gina says the game was not fair, claiming David and Terry were teaming up against Mario. Gina points out that Jack can train Mario to make him stronger and offers to help Jack in this endeavor. After Terry bullies Jack, specifically calling Jack "Mario" after his amiibo, Jack leaves and takes his Mario amiibo with him. David asks Gina if she is going to join her "boyfriend", to which Gina responds by saying she will and tells them to continue playing. Terry, who did not get the joke, asks if she and Jack were dating.

A montage is then shown of Jack playing Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as his Mii Swordfighter, trying to get better at the game and train the Mario Figure Player by fighting against it. Gina helps Jack in three scenes: pointing at something on the screen in one scene, playing a 2 vs 2 match with her Mii Gunner and Peach fighting against Jack and Mario in another scene, and coaching Jack in a third scene. Mario's level increases throughout. After the scenes involving playing the video game, other scenes show Jack training himself and Mario outside the game. Jack repeatedly thrusts one of his palms toward David while David eats cereal, matching the motions of Mario's Fireball and forward smash. Jack swings a yellow cape around while walking down a road, mimicking Mario's Cape. He meditates with his Mario amiibo, screams into a mirror with his Mario amiibo, pummels a punching bag while wearing a hoodie, and jumps over a barrel as a sound effect from Donkey Kong plays. Lastly, Jack performs a trust fall in a clearing with the Mario amiibo placed to catch Jack, with the scene cutting away before Jack lands on the Mario amiibo. The cut is accentuated with the "Power-Down" sound effect.

After training, Jack returns to David, Terry, and Gina to play the game with them, using the same ruleset and characters as before. Mario is now at level 50. This time, the team of Jack and Mario win the battle, surprising David and Terry. In celebration, Jack tries to hug Gina, but she prevents him from doing so and tells him he will not beat her Samus amiibo. David then brings out his Kirby amiibo, and Terry brings out his Marth amiibo, both claiming he will not beat any of them. Jack then grabs his Pikachu amiibo from behind his back, and he and Gina clink their amiibo together. The video ends with amiibo figures being advertised.
