At the title screen, the player can view the activity's instructions or click a green button to start the activity. The object of the game is for the player to find four differences with a random piece of artwork from New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, with the time elapsed shown on the left. When the player clicks on a part of the artwork that differentiates from the other version, the area will be surrounded with a white circle on both the original and edited image. If a part of the image that does not have a difference is clicked, a dotted red circle briefly appears and five seconds are added to the timer. There are a total of four rounds, but there are eight images that can appear, one for each of the first eight worlds in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. When the player completes the last round, a congratulations message pops up and the player can either try the activity again or go to the official New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe website.
