Holiday Create-a-Card, referred to as Play Nintendo Holiday Card Creator in the title of its web page, is an activity on the Play Nintendo website.[1] It is an application that allows the user to design a printable holiday greeting card using elements related to several Nintendo franchises, mainly the Super Mario franchise.
Overview[edit]
In the activity, the user is shown a canvas and a number of decorations in a scrolling column. There are four types of decorations available, namely backgrounds, greetings, characters, and items, with only one type shown in the column at a time, requiring the user to switch between them via tabs. When a decoration is selected in the column, it appears on the canvas; backgrounds automatically fill the canvas, overwriting the previous background, while other decorations can be highlighted and subsequently moved around, resized, or rotated. The application also offers a number of predetermined designs, which replace the design currently on the canvas when selected. There is a "Clear all" button that is used to erase the all content on the canvas.
Following the above, the user can click "Next" to advance to a screen where they may opt to download their card as a PDF file (which includes instructions for printing and folding the card) or as an image file. On the same screen, the user can also choose either to return to the canvas so as to resume editing their card, or to start anew.
Controls[edit]
To manipulate an element around the canvas, the user must first highlight it by selecting it with a pointing device (a mouse or touchscreen). This causes two functions to appear next to the chosen element: one is a handle that can be dragged around to simultaneously resize and rotate the element, and the other is a button that removes the element when selected.
The user can also manipulate a selected element using keyboard controls, shown here:
