"Paper Mario: Color Splash - Outtakes (Wii U)" is a video first published on the official Japanese Nintendo YouTube channel, although it has been made private since, and later on various European Nintendo YouTube channels. The video is filmed in stop-motion, and features physical cut-outs of characters from Paper Mario: Color Splash in a workbench-like setting. All spoken words in the video are in Japanese, though for the European uploads, subtitles in the language of the corresponding country are provided on the bottom of the screen.
Synopsis[edit]
At the beginning of the video, Mario stands facing away from the camera as uplifting music plays. A fan in the background blows Mario into the camera, after which a clapperboard reading "Outtakes" is shown. The video then cuts to the first "take", which, upon starting, has Mario unfurl himself from a ball. Mario then hears a slurping sound effect and pauses, finding a red Slurp Guy drinking an entire cup of what appears to be tea. The man behind the camera calls "cut", and the video cuts to the second take.
The second take begins much like the first, though Toad unfurls himself from a ball instead of Mario. The man behind the camera says "Oops!", and the camera pans out to reveal Mario standing slightly off-camera, facing away from the viewer. Mario turns toward the camera, and a bead of sweat goes down his face.
The video then cuts to Mario taking to Rescue Red, followed by a Goomba popping out of a large ? Block behind them. Mario turns around after hearing the Goomba pop out of the ? Block, though the Goomba ducks back into the ? Block before Mario can see them. Mario turns back to Rescue Red and continues talking with him, followed by the Goomba peeking out of the ? Block a second time. Mario turns back to the Goomba, though the Goomba ducks back down into the ? Block again before Mario can see them.
Mario then pretends to turn around and catches the Goomba as they peek out of the ? Block, which causes the Goomba to duck slowly back down into the ? Block. The video then cuts to the third take. Mario unfurls himself from a ball, only to accidentally knock over a cardboard tree and crush himself. Mario slides out from under the tree, and multiple voices groan.
The video then cuts to the fifth take. Mario unfurls himself from a ball correctly this time and jumps, only for the camera to be out of focus. The man behind the camera notices this, and hurriedly cuts the take. Mario falls to the floor after this. The video then cuts to Mario unfurling himself from a ball and jumping correctly, followed by the Paper Mario: Color Splash logo appearing. The man behind the camera then says that the take is good, and calls "cut" once more. Multiple voices, including that of some Toads, cheer.
