"Nintendo - Super Mario 3D Land Takes Over Times Square" is a promotional video published in Nintendo of America's official YouTube channel in 2011. The video shows footage of an event themed after Super Mario 3D Land held in 2011, in addition to footage of the area being set up.
Synopsis[edit]
At the beginning of the video, a time-lapse showing the area themed after the game being set up is shown. Additionally, text appears on the screen stating that on November 23, 2011, [:Nintendo 3DS]] "took over" Times Square. The video then cuts to three women exclaiming "We love Mario!". Footage of an unknown actor in a full-body Mario costume standing in front of a structure resembling the screen of a Nintendo 3DS is then shown.
Footage of a man dressed in clothing themed after Mario doing a front flip onto a trampoline designed after platforms from the game is then shown. The text from the beginning of the video is then shown, stating that Nintendo invited people to play in "Mario's world". A man in a Mario hat wearing a black hoodie with the Super Mario 3D Land logo on it then welcomes the viewer, stating that the area containing the themed location was originally Military Island prior to Nintendo converting the area.
As he speaks, footage of the area is shown. Text themed after the event is shown scrolling on Jumbotrons. He states that this is a chance for one to be "inside the game". As he says this, footage of an area in which participants can play the game on Nintendo 3DS systems is shown, in addition to footage of another person jumping on the trampolines themed after platforms from the game.
He then says that Nintendo has taken some of the game's elements and made them "lifelike". As he says this, footage of a statue of a Bullet Bill is shown. A brief montage of consumers playing in the themed space is then shown, including footage of a man hitting a floating ? Block, and another person going down a slide themed after a Warp Pipe. Footage of Mario standing with two kids is then shown. Interview footage of a man wearing a Nintendo New York hoodie is then shown, who says that he has been following the Super Mario series for over 25 years.
Footage of Mario posing with another group, a young child in a Tanooki Mario-themed costume, and footage of Mario posing with a third group is then shown. As this footage is shown, a woman states that the franchise is likely one of the most popular games for every person at the event as they grew up. Another woman standing next to this woman says that she remembers playing Super Mario games on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. As she says this, footage of Mario posing with another group, in addition to footage of the two women standing in the hollowed-out facial area of a Tanooki Mario cutout, are then shown. She then says that Super Mario games defined her childhood. The two women, in addition to a man standing with them, then exclaim "We love Mario!".
Footage from below of the man doing a front flip onto the trampolines themed after platforms from the game is then shown, followed by footage of Mario posing with a woman. Interview footage of a young boy is then shown, who says that he (and presumably the rest of his group) are going to collect coins, go down Warp Pipes, and jump on trampolines. As he mentions each element of the area, footage of what he is mentioning is shown. Interview footage is then shown of a man who states that he is going to wear the Tanooki Mario ears and tail (which make up the event's Tanooki Mario costume), and go through The whole area. Interview footage of a young girl is then shown, who states that she (and presumably the rest of her group) are going to "play the game in real life".
Another montage of various people playing in the area is then shown. More interview footage of the man wearing the red Nintendo New York hoodie is then shown, who states that he knew he had to purchase Super Mario 3D Land as soon as he heard it was releasing. As he says this, more footage of the area where participants can play the game on Nintendo 3DS systems is shown. He then calls the franchise "simply the best". Footage of him giving a piggyback ride to a child (who is presumably his son) is then shown as they bounce on the trampolines. Interview footage with his son is then shown, who exclaims that Mario is his favorite.
Another montage showing people playing in the area is then shown, followed by the employee interviewed at the beginning of the video stating that Nintendo built an immersive experience themed after the game on the "busiest corner in the United States". As he says this, footage of multiple people in Mario costumes jumping is shown, in addition to footage of the d for the event. Footage of multiple people in Mario costumes posing for the camera is then shown.
