"Nintendo Switch Parental Controls - Nintendo Switch Presentation 2017 Trailer" is a two-minute video made to advertise and demonstrate the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls smartphone app. The video was uploaded to YouTube on January 13, 2017, predating the console's release by almost two months, and can also be viewed on the Nintendo Switch console, via the Parental Controls settings menu.
Summary[edit]
The video features Bowser and Bowser Jr., the latter of whom is playing on his Nintendo Switch whilst the former is trying to find out what Bowser Jr. is playing. Bowser then uses the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app, as the narrator guides the viewer on how to use the app's various features.
The first feature demonstrated is the time limit; Bowser Jr. spends too long playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, making Bowser increasingly frustrated. Bowser uses the app to set a timer for how long Bowser Jr. can play. In a succeeding scenario, Bowser Jr. ignores the time limit and continues playing, which Bowser notices. He considers enabling the setting to put the console into sleep mode, but he decides not to out of guilt for Bowser Jr. In a following scene, Bowser Jr. asks for a new game as a reward, but he throws a tantrum when Bowser declines.
The second feature demonstrated is the ability to see the child's most-played games. Bowser receives a monthly summary for Bowser Jr.'s console and views it whilst Bowser Jr. is playing (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is shown to be his top-played game whilst Splatoon 2 is shown to be his second-most-played game). In the next scene, Bowser Jr. discusses to Bowser how the former attacked Mario with a Red Shell in the game.
The third feature demonstrated is restricting features. In one scene, Bowser is seen running to Bowser Jr. to cover his eyes from what he is seeing on the television screen. In the next scene, which shows the ability to restrict communication features, Bowser scares off three Boos (representing strangers on the internet) who were sneaking up on Bowser Jr.
In the final scene, Bowser finishes setting restrictions on the app, and he plays a game with Bowser Jr.
