"Canada's Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Banana Mania Contest" is a video published on Nintendo of America's YouTube channel in 2014. The video was made to promote a contest being held in Canada for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, for which participants had to guess how many bananas were in a block of ice.

Synopsis[edit]

The video is hosted by Ajay Fry. At the start of the video, he zips up a snow jacket and opens an overhead door, gesturing that the viewer follow him. Once he goes inside, text reading "Day 6" and Ajay's name fades in at the bottom left corner of the screen. Ajay stares that he is "reporting" for Nintendo on an "infamous" crate that "everyone is talking about".

He then suggests that they head inside to see what is in the crate. He begins walking inside, and tells the viewer to watch out for a banana peel on the floor. Upon walking to the area containing the crate, which is surrounded by a light-blue tarp, Ajay exclaims "Wow. Check out that beast!". The camera then pans to an actor in a full-body Donkey Kong costume, who turns toward the camera. Ajay says that he was not talking about Donkey Kong, and that he was talking about the large crate.

Donkey Kong and Ajay then look at the crate. Ajay touches the crate and states that he wonders what the snowflake symbol on the crate means, and that he's never seen anything like it. He then knocks on the crate. Donkey Kong then pounds the ground repeatedly, after which Ajay says that it is time to open the crate, and requests a drumroll. One of the two people in the background of the video, who have been facing away from the camera and tending to various electronics throughout, then turns around and provides a drumroll.

The camera then cuts back to Donkey Kong and provides a close-up of his fists pounding the ground, then cuts back to a wide shot as the crate falls open. The crate contains a large amount of bananas encased in a block of ice, which excites Donkey Kong. A close-up shot of Donkey Kong pounding his chest is then shown, followed by that of the bananas.

Ajay is also surprised by the bananas, questioning how they ended up encased in ice in the first place. One of the two people in the background of the video then begins chiseling the bananas out of the ice. Ajay states that there might be hundreds, thousands, or millions of bananas in the ice, then asks the viewer how many bananas they think are in the ice.

Donkey Kong then hands Ajay a calculator, which he has turned upside-down so that it reads "Bananas". To this, Ajay shakes his head. The two people from the background of the video shoot off confetti cannons and balloons fall from the sky, which excites Donkey Kong. The camera then pans out, showing the set that the video is being filmed on. The video then cuts to a promotional graphic for the contest.
