40 Questions for Charles Martinet

40 Questions for Charles Martinet is a series of videos published on the Nintendo Today! app as news pages for the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary event in 2026. The videos feature former Mario/Luigi/Wario/Waluigi voice actor Charles Martinet answering questions, some of them having Martinet pick one of two answers. They were recorded during the Nintendo Live 2025 Tokyo event.[1] A total of five parts were published on February 4, February 11, February 18, February 25, and March 4, respectively.

Questions[edit]

Part 1[edit]

Question 1: How tall are you?

Martinet states he is six feet and three inches tall or around 1.96 meters.

Questions 2–7: Could you give us a few lines?

Martinet performs voice lines for Mario, Baby Mario, Luigi, Baby Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi.

Question 8: Which ability would you rather have?

This question features Jump and Dash as answers. Martinet picks Jump and asks if he can have Cappy too.

Question 9: Who would you rather travel with?

This question features Yoshi and Toad as answers. Martinet picks Yoshi, mentioning that he gets to ride everywhere and have more than one Yoshi.

Question 10: What's your most memorable Mario game?

Martinet answers by saying that all of them have a place in his heart and mentions Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Odyssey, the Mario Kart series, and Super Mario Galaxy.

Part 2[edit]

Question 11: Which character was most fun to voice?

Martinet answers with Mario, although he admits he is more like Luigi.

Question 12: Which line did you record the most?

Martinet says that "wahoo!" is the line he recorded the most.

Question 13: Which are you better at?

This question features Mario Kart and Mario Party as answers. Martinet picks Mario Kart.

Question 14: Where would you rather go?

This question features Yoshi's Island and Mushroom Kingdom as answers. Martinet picks Mushroom Kingdom and says he wants to visit Mario, Princess Peach, and Luigi.

Question 15: Do you own blue overalls?

This question features yes and no as answers. Martinet says he does and that he also has a red shirt.

Question 16: Describe Mario in one word.

Martinet describes Mario with the words joy, love, happiness, and fun. He also asks if there is one word in Japanese that encompasses all of those and that he would like to invent one if there is not.

Part 3[edit]

Question 17: Which character left the strongest impression?

Martinet says that the character that left the strongest impression is Mario because he is the character Martinet wants to be like.

Question 18: Which enemy character left the strongest impression?

Martinet responds with Wario, saying that he loves how the joke is always on him.

Question 19: Do you wear hats often?

This question features yes and no as answers. Martinet says he does all the time.

Question 20: Have you ever grown out your facial hair before?

This question features yes and no as answers. Martinet says he did but only on the left side of his face.

Question 21: Which mustache do you like more?

This question features Mario's and Luigi's as answers. Martinet picks Mario's.

Question 22: Do you like turtles?

This question features yes and no as answers. Martinet responds by saying that he loves turtles.

Question 23: Who would you not want to visit your home?

This question features Bowser and Wario as answers. Martinet picks Bowser, further elaborating that when he sits on the mother's couch, the spikes on his shell dig through it.

Question 24: What is your most precious Mario memorabilia?

Martinet says that his most precious Super Mario item is a music box made by a fan that plays "Ground BGM" from Super Mario Bros., which makes him think of Koji Kondo, Shigeru Miyamoto, and his entire life experience.

Part 4[edit]

Question 25: What made you happy when you were a child?

Martinet say that making his mother laugh made him happy when he was a child.

Question 26: Which do you like more?

This question features the ocean and the mountains as answers. Martinet picks the ocean and says he loves the sound and the breeze of the sea.

Question 27: Where would you rather go?

This question features space and the deep sea as answers. Martinet picks space, saying there are trillions of stars and billions of galaxies and that humans are lucky to live on a planet as small as Earth.

Question 28: Which would you rather try out?

This question features FLUDD from Super Mario Sunshine and the Poltergust from Luigi's Mansion as answers. Martinet responds with FLUDD as it was a memorable experience and when he realized he was in "big trouble".

Question 29: Which would you rather ride?

This question features Yoshi and Lakitu as answers. Martinet picks Yoshi and says he loves him.

Question 30: Which would you rather have?

This question features Super Mushroom and a Star as answers. Martinet jokingly says both but later picks Super Mushroom.

Question 31: Which are you better at?

This question features golf and tennis as answers. Martinet says he is better at tennis, but he confesses that it has been a long time since he "whacked a ball around".

Question 32: Which do you like more?

This question features dogs and cats as answers. Martinet responds with barks "because [he is] a big dog" and says that if he had a tail, it would always be waggling.

Question 33: Which do you like more?

This question features sushi and tempura as answers. Martinet says he loves both but picks sushi because otherwise he would eat only tempura and be "very big". He also shares that he had teppanyaki for lunch and that all Japanese he speaks is sushi-related.

Question 34: Do you usually find yourself speaking like Mario?

Martinet says that he not only speaks like Mario, but also dreams like Mario, with one of his favorite dreams being the "flying dream" in which he flies like Mario in Super Mario Galaxy over mountains, the sea, and lakes.

Part 5[edit]

Question 35: Where would you like to visit in Japan?

Martinet says he loves going to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto and that he would like to visit northern Japan and eat the king crab and giant crab.

Question 36: Which do you like more?

This question features the indoors and the outdoors as answers. Martinet picks both and states that he loves being indoors for peace and quiet and outdoors to see the world.

Question 37: Who would you rather have as a brother?

This question features Mario and Luigi as answers. Martinet picks both Mario and Luigi, saying their names in their voices.

Question 38: Do you like mushrooms?

This question features yes and no as answers. Martinet says he loves all kinds of mushrooms, mentioning chanterelles, button mushrooms, and enoki mushrooms.

Question 39: Which do you like more?

This question features summer and winter as answers. Martinet picks summer and mentions that he also loves springtime.

Question 40: Please share a message for the fans.

Martinet thanks fans for allowing him to touch their hearts with his work and says he is honored to do the voice of Mario and be in their life. He then hopes that each fan receives the joy, love, and gratitude that he receives, and tells them to follow their dreams and hearts and love as much as they can, followed by him saying to seek them by loving themselves as life is short. He concludes by saying "thank you so much for playing my games" in Mario's voice.
