A Banana Mirror[1] is an item in Donkey Kong Country Returns, its Nintendo 3DS port and its Nintendo Switch port. It is a golden hand mirror with a banana incorporated into the edge. It glows purple. It is the sole reward of the Slot Machine Barrel of the Golden Temple. When the level is completed, the Banana Mirror is displayed alongside the collected Puzzle Pieces, just like the KONG Letters and Rare Orbs in the game's other levels. It spins during this sequence.

With a Banana Mirror, the player unlocks Mirror Mode. It allows the player to play levels but with their layouts flipped such that Donkey Kong moves from right to left to complete them. Mirror Mode also prevents Diddy Kong from appearing, reduces Donkey Kong to having a maximum of one heart, removes hearts from levels, and prevents him from equipping items from the Inventory. This makes the game substantially more difficult. In the New Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and the Modern Mode of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Donkey Kong instead has a maximum of two hearts, and DK Barrels do not heal him, but no other changes are made. Completing levels in Mirror Mode adds an icon depicting a Banana Mirror to each of them and raises the Completion percentage. Due to Mirror Mode, the game's highest completion percentage is 200%, instead of the standard 100%. With every level completed in Mirror Mode, the save file will also gain an icon depicting a Banana Mirror. Some extra images will also be added to the Image Gallery.
