“This is a Crazee Dayzee. Crazee Dayzees look cute, but you won't think they're so cute after they attack you!”
—Goombario, Paper Mario

Crazee Dayzees are flower-like enemies that first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

History[edit]

Yoshi series[edit]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]

Crazee Dayzees' first appearance is in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, where they act as minor recurring enemies throughout the game and can have either white or yellow petals. Crazee Dayzees behave similarly to Shy-Guys, but will survive being swallowed and spat out unless they collide with another enemy. An uncommon variation with purple petals that spits out bubbles known as Bubble Dayzee can also be found in some levels.

Yoshi's Island DS[edit]

Crazee Dayzees reappear in Yoshi's Island DS, where they act as they did in the previous game. They are found in many levels, including Ba-dum BUM!, Hit the M Blocks!, Mario's Fleet Feet, Baby Mario and Baby Peach: Dynamic Duo and Donuts and Eggs. Notably, the Bubble Dayzees do not appear in this game.

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

Crazee Dayzees reappear in Yoshi's New Island and behave identically as in the first two games.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book[edit]

After being absent from Yoshi's Woolly World and Yoshi's Crafted World, Crazee Dayzees reappear in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, where they are first found in Chapter 1: Wildwoods. Unlike their previous appearances, they are friendly to Yoshi in this game. They are the very first creatures for the player to discover, as well as the most common creature in the game, being present in almost every habitat throughout the game. Crazee Dayzees appear in their usual yellow colors and in white, blue, purple, and orange. They can be carried on Yoshi's back to bloom small and large flowers in the environment, which match the color of the Crazee Dayzee.

If Yoshi is idle near one while it is in a flower patch, it will give Yoshi a flower crown to wear. When bumped into or hit by an egg, they become stunned for a few seconds.[1][2] When Ground Pounded they begin to sprout, and can quickly grow into massive trees when watered. When fed an apple they turn orange and cause apples to sprout from grass. Feeding one a pepper will turn it red and similarly cause peppers to sprout from grass. Feeding one note fruit will turn it pink and similarly cause note fruits to sprout from grass. Grey Crazee Dayzees also appear; these are exhausted and must be revived with fresh water, apples, or peppers.

They are the natural prey of Ouchins and Piranha Plants and attract Bunchabees.

Main article: Crazee Dayzee (moon)

Crazee Dayzee trees of varying growths appear as background elements in a few habitats, especially in their home habitat and in Survive the Risky Skies. The Tallest of Trees, as well as the Moon by extension, are eventually revealed to be an extremely massive Crazee Dayzee tree that so happened to survive for many years, with the "moon" actually being said creature's face, with three holes serving as its eyes and mouth, and two craters appearing as its cheeks. With the apparent moon being the subject of an apocalyptic event where it eventually fell onto the planet that the creatures originally resided on, Mr. E was created to save the creatures from a terrible fate caused by it.

Paper Mario series[edit]

Crazee Dayzees in the Paper Mario series all have lavender petals and purple feet, potentially inspired by Bubble Dayzee's design.

Paper Mario[edit]

In Paper Mario, Crazee Dayzees first appear as enemies in Flower Fields, where they attack Mario on sight and often fight alongside Bzzaps! and Ruff Puffs. They typically attack by singing, putting Mario to sleep. They will flee from battle when Mario gets their HP low enough. A rare variant known as the Amazy Dayzee first appears in this game, which has higher HP, and much higher attack in comparison.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door[edit]

Crazee Dayzees, along with Amazy Dayzees, make a return appearance in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door as well as its Nintendo Switch remake. In this game, they can be found along the Twilight Trail near Twilight Town. Like in the previous installment, they attack by singing, putting Mario or his partner to sleep (while also piercing defense), and flee from battle. Amazy Dayzees also appear in the lower levels of the Pit of 100 Trials and alongside other enemies in Twilight Trail. Starting with Twilight Trail, Crazee Dayzees can start appearing in the audience; if one sings, it will put a large swath of audience members to sleep for a short period. A Crazee Dayzee with green petals and blue feet, known as Hayzee, appears as Luigi's ally. He joined Luigi on his adventure to assemble the Marvelous Compass after being impressed by Luigi's portrayal of "grass" in a play. Hayzee is from a town of Crazee Dayzees known as Jazzafrazz Town, which is the first time that a Crazee Dayzee is shown to be an ally, rather than just a simple enemy.

Despite the Nintendo Switch remake changing most instances referring to mental states, including most uses of the word "crazy," Crazee Dayzees retain their name.

Super Paper Mario[edit]

Crazee Dayzees return in Super Paper Mario. They can be found in the Dotwood Tree and rooms 26 and 58 of the Flipside Pit of 100 Trials. When they sing, a musical note fires from them towards the player like a projectile and puts them to sleep when hit. Its stronger variety, the Amazy Dayzee, also returns.

Minecraft[edit]

In the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack for Minecraft, Cornflowers are replaced by Crazee Dayzees.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

A Crazee Dayzee appears as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie[edit]

In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a painting of Crazee Dayzees can be seen on the top floor of Bowser's miniature castle.

Naming[edit]

Crazee Dayzees' name is based on the rhyming terms "crazy" and the flower "daisy", comedically misspelled.

When the name is suggested by Mr. E in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, he says the following:

“It's floral and funny, with behaviors that baffle...so how about Crazee Dayzee?”
—Mr. E
