Jetty Jellies are jellyfish-like creatures that appear in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. First encountered in Chapter 6: Remote Isle in the Jetty Jelly Habitat, they are unlocked by completing the Huffin Puffin Habitat.
Jetty Jellies are found in water and can be used by Yoshi to propel himself in the air. By doing so, the Jetty Jelly creates a jet of water in a similar way to F.L.U.D.D.'s Hover Nozzle (except that Yoshi can go in any direction unlike Mario). A Jetty Jelly's water jet is so fast it allows Yoshi to slice seaweed, break into crates and other objects in his way. He can also ricochet on the surface of the water if handled well. By using a Jetty Jelly, Yoshi can also go into water for a bit before going back to the surface.
Just like F.L.U.D.D.'s water tank, using jets of water empties the Jetty Jelly's body which must be refilled in order to fly again. Yoshi can refill the Jetty Jelly by going back into any body of water or by consuming any of the Flooflys found in the Jetty Jelly Habitat (though a new Floofly will respawn where the previous one was).
The water inside a Jetty Jelly can change if it consumes a Floofly of a different color. Consuming a red Floofly will turn the Jetty Jelly red with a hot pepper jet. A yellow Floofly turns the Jetty Jelly yellow with a lightning jet that lits ups Glow Vines. If taken to a Pink Pool, the Jetty Jelly turns pink and uses a pink jet that produces Mildes. If a different-colored jet is used on a normal Floofly, the Floofly's color will change to match the jet's color (a normal water jet turns a normal Floofly into a rain Floofly). However, if a different-colored Jetty Jelly falls into normal water, it will turn back to normal which will require Yoshi to find another Floofly in order to use a different-colored jet. Because of this, Jetty Jellies are the natural predator of the Floofly.
Jetty Jellies taste like fizzy water which Mr. E compares to carbonated water. According to one discovery, Jetty Jelly children cling to seaweed in the water until they grow strong enough to fly on their own.
Naming[edit]
"Jetty Jelly" is a play on words between "jet" and "jelly(fish)".
When the name is suggested by Mr. E, he says the following:
- “It flies about by firing out a jet of seawater...so how about Jetty Jelly?”
- —Mr. E
