The alien is a creature that appears in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. He is encountered in the Yu Ef Oh Base level, where Yoshi can rescue him from his escape pod using the Yu Ef Oh.
Overview[edit]
In Yu Ef Oh Base, the alien initially appears panicking inside its escape pod, as it is flying out of control. As described in supplementary flavor text within Yu Ef Oh's listed discoveries, the alien sent out a distress signal, which is noted by orange signal waves appearing out of his escape pod. To free the alien, Yoshi must get Yu Ef Oh to absorb the escape pod, then bump the pod from below to force it inside the spacecraft. The Yu Ef Oh will eventually free the alien by launching him out.
On his own, the alien will slowly hop in one direction, depending on where he is facing. If hit with an egg, he will be momentarily dazed for a while. The alien stays still when placed in water, and if absorbed on his own by Yu Ef Oh he will be scanned like any other creature and then spat out without any effect. While Yoshi can eat the alien, the creature is considered inedible and he will spit him out immediately.
Within the same habitat is a "safe house" that is thought by Mr. E to be the "little alien's home", accessible after getting Yu Ef Oh to burst through concrete beams by absorbing then expelling Billeau. It is locked at the start, and requires bringing the alien to unlock it for Yoshi to access.
History[edit]
Shown through special pages unlocked after clearing Hop or Drop in Chapter 12: Mr. E's Challenges is more information about the alien, who is revealed to be the "professor" that created Mr. E, an otherworldly compendium.
As an individual member of the otherworldly scientists that came to study the planet and its inhabitants, the professor became determined to save the creatures after having the foresight to predict the moon falling to the planet's surface and causing disaster. He worked tirelessly to preserve as many creatures as he could by transporting them into Mr. E's pages, and toiled to the very end on the planet's surface. After the moon fell, the professor was nowhere to be found. To fulfill the professor's final wish, Mr. E worked with the Yoshis to study and document all the creatures that were transported within his pages.
The professor is the only one among the scientists whose design is explicitly shown in-game. It is currently unknown what the other scientists that came to study the planet's creatures looked like, and if they appear to resemble the professor or not.

Naming[edit]
As this creature is not listed in the Index page, the name "Alien" is used by related discoveries for Yu Ef Oh and its supplementary text, and is detected by the "Name Plate" exploration tools. However, it is instead referred to as the "Professor" within the special pages attained for clearing the challenge Hop or Drop.
