The Underbit is a creature in the Underground Chapter of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book with a mainly yellow and white exterior. At the starting point of the level, Yoshi can try to catch the Underbit before it goes away. Once caught, the player can move underground as the Underbit eats dirt and bugs. The Underbit can eat many things like Jewel Bugs, Fish, Moles, and it also attempts to bite a Wiggaline. Once it eats a worm, it will speed up and dig rapidly, allowing it to break through Rocks. Everything the Underbit eats adds to the meter, which clears the level once full. If the player completes the meter twice, the Underbit will produce fertilizer.
Naming[edit]
"Underbit" refers to "under" because it goes under the surface and "bit" because it bites everything in its way.
When the name is suggested by Mr. E, he says the following:
- “"It burrows by gobbling up sand as quick as it can, so how about Underbit?"”
- —Mr. E
