Tail Flick
The Tail Flick is a move used by Yoshi in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. This ability allows Yoshi to pick up small creatures and objects (similar to carrying) or make him interact with creatures in unique ways. Tail Flick is typically executed by pressing .
Overview[edit]
When performing a Tail Flick, Yoshi will swish his tail to pick up a nearby small creature or object and carry it on his back. Some creatures cannot be carried on Yoshi's back this way, including large creatures like regular Croakaokes. Pressing again while carrying a creature or object will cause Yoshi to toss it forward. Looking up will cause Yoshi to toss it upwards instead, while crouching will make Yoshi place down the creature/object without throwing.
Oftentimes, using the Tail Flick is mandatory for many of the obtainable discoveries in-game, as Yoshi often needs to use this move to give food to creatures, grow plants or complete rescue missions. Some carryable creatures have special actions that often replace Yoshi's ability to throw them when picked up by Tail Flick. For example, carrying a Casterway allows Yoshi to cast a fishing line to catch fish in its habitat, or carrying a Mawstalk allows Yoshi to swing the creature to catch bugs and fish.
Some creatures rely on the Tail Flick to be interacted with, including Spincones which can be spun faster with said move, and Jam Guys to get them to play music.
Yoshi can also automatically carry creatures or objects that fall onto his back, without the need for a Tail Flick.

Notes[edit]
- Carrying creatures or objects using Tail Flick affects the Scale exploration tool, which shows their "weight" via a unitless number. For example, a Crazee Dayzee carried on Yoshi's back weighs 20 units.
