The Gobbobble is a rather aggressive, plant-like creature that appears as a boss character in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, in the titular Gobbobble Nest from Chapter 8: Tallest of Trees. Initially, it appears as a serpentine creature with several multicolored, gelatinous segments, but in reality, it only consists of a head, and the remaining segments are bubble-like eggs in which it stores its previously gobbled up prey. In the Gobbobble Nest, the Gobbobble swallows Bowser Jr. and Kamek, and Yoshi must free the two in order to get a three-star discovery and clear the habitat.

Overview[edit]

The Gobbobble is a green creature with pink eyelids, a white underside, and purple lips with a large tooth sticking out from the upper jaw. It also has a collar of wooden sticks and a leaf-like tail on its backside. It can also carry up to twenty of its prey-containing eggs behind itself, which are being dragged behind it with purple connector pieces. The eggs can appear in the colors green, yellow or orange. Kamek and Bowser Jr. are stored in a purple egg each.

The Gobbobble attacks by storming all over its nest, crawling on walls and ceilings and gobbling up anything in its path, putting them in eggs and adding them to its serpentine trail. If it gobbles up Yoshi, it put them in an egg and spits them out to the other side of the nest. Another method of attack it has is spitting its prey towards Yoshi, its trail being its ammo. In order to damage the Gobbobble, Yoshi is required to destroy its egg trail by any means necessary, then Ground Pound its underside as it gets exposed. After taking a hit, the Gobbobble digs underground, and returns from above with a new egg trail that store different creatures. Yoshi is required to hit it three times in order to defeat the Gobbobble; however, he doesn't have to defeat it completely in order to clear the habitat.

In the first phase, the Gobbobble only storms all over the nest and spits eggs, only pausing for a brief moment to catch some breath; it also has Kamek among its stored prey. In the second phase, it will also jump around the habitat, and a Smiley Flower is stored in its egg trail. In the third phase, the Gobbobble's jumping becomes more erratic, and Bowser Jr. is among its stored prey.

Naming[edit]

"Gobbobble" is a portmanteau of "gobble" and "bubble".

When the name is suggested by Mr. E, he says the following:

“It gobbles everything up to store in those egg-like bubbles...so how about Gobbobble?”
Mr. E
