A Billeau is a large, gaseous creature that appears in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. First appearing in the Billeau Habitat of Chapter 7: Underground, it is a mass of purple, noxious gas with round eyes, which Yoshi can walk into, and once they walk out of it, parts of Billeau will follow the Yoshi, creating a trail of itself (while the Billeau itself will shrink, and grows back when the trail retract back to it). Due to its gaseous nature, the gravity inside of a Billeau is lowered, so Yoshi's jumps are higher and their descent is slower until it is no longer inside a Billeau or its its gas trail falters.

Its purple gas can affect smaller creatures and plants, such as butterflies, Springhoppers, small fish, and Bunchabees, turning them purple and making them move slower. Affecting five groups of these creatures is a goal discovery worth three stars. It can similarly affect flowers and Crazee Dayzees, wilting them, and if Yoshi idles for too long inside a Billeau, they will get dizzy and fall asleep. A Billeau cannot stand the sunlight, and its gas is highly inflammable, its trail exploding once it comes into contact with fire. It also cannot stand the water; not only does a body of water turn purple when coming in contact with a Billeau, but the Billeau itself will shrink, too. If Yoshi Ground Pounds it many times into the water, the Billeau will dissolve.

A Billeau also appears in Yu Ef Oh Base in Chapter 10: Moon, where Yu Ef Oh can abduct several gas clouds then the creature itself, then later expel it out to propel very fast upwards and destroy concrete beams above it. A Billeau is also hidden up a tree in A Perilous Passage from Chapter 11: Special Studies.

Naming[edit]

When the name is suggested by Mr. E, he says the following:

“It's a dense fog that flows and follows... so how about Billeau?”
