Exploration Tools are customizable user interface elements in Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. They can be freely overlaid atop the screen on a 15×8 grid; the exact shape and size of each exploration tool varies. Once placed, they provide information about the current state of Yoshi and the environment. The ability to obtain and utilize exploration tools is granted after completing the Bewilder Bird Habitat and viewing the game's credits for the first time.
The game features a total of 56 exploration tools. Four of these are badges, which are unlocked by reaching milestones in the game. By exchanging 5 Smiley Flowers, Mr. E can invent and thus unlock one of the other 52 exploration tools.
