"Battle Fanfare"[1][2] is a musical theme composed by Yuka Tsujiyoko for Paper Mario, where it plays during all normal battles throughout the game. The beginning of the theme changes slightly depending on whether Mario or his enemy gets a First Strike. This concept of a dynamically changing battle theme has become a recurring detail in later entries, starting with Paper Mario: Sticker Star twelve years later.
The first bar of the theme quotes the beginning of "Main Title" from the same game.
