Octoombas, originally referred to as Electrogoombas,[1] are alien enemies in the Super Mario series and first appear in Super Mario Galaxy. Octoombas bear resemblances to Goombas and octopuses (particularly their cartoony depiction common in Japanese media), both of which contribute to the name. Octoombas have a blue body with sunken glowing eyes, scowling eyebrows, and several yellow spots. They have a snout-like mouth from which they spit rocks. Octoombas also sport an antenna on their head and use their three rounded feet to hop left and right. Octoombas glow orange while charging an attack.

HistoryEdit

Super Mario seriesEdit

Super Mario GalaxyEdit

Electrogoombas are first seen in the first selectable mission of Super Mario Galaxy and appear sporadically later on. Electrogoombas move back and forth along set paths, but when approached, they try to headbutt Mario. Electrogoombas can be defeated from a spin, causing it to release three Star Bits, or from a stomp, making it drop a coin instead.[2] Electrogoombas have a more common rock-spitting variant named Octoguy as well as a large relative, Rocto.

AppearancesEdit
  •   marks missions where they are completely absent.
  •   marks missions where they are loaded and may be visible, but cannot be encountered directly.

Super Mario Galaxy 2Edit

Octoombas reappear in Super Mario Galaxy 2 under their current name.[3] Their attack is now to spit rocks,[4] just like Octoguys. Octoombas are much more common than before. The game introduces two more Octoomba varieties, Elite Octoombas and Octoboos, both of which tend to appear more often later on. Octoombas do not take damage from lava in the Shiverburn Galaxy.[5]

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's FuryEdit

Octoombas[6] are enemies in Super Mario 3D World and its remake. Octoombas are the last enemies introduced, and they are encountered in bonus world stages such as Super Galaxy, Gigantic Seasick Wreck, and Champion's Road. Octoombas remain in one position and only move by rotating. They are stronger, not only by spitting three cannonballs in a straight line to attack, but also being unaffected by most attacks except a Ground Pound, which is the only method to defeat them.

Dr. Mario WorldEdit

Octoombas appear in Dr. Mario World as assistants. They also appear in the background of World 8 when an area has been cleared. In stage mode, its effect is to fill the skill meter by half of the doctor's full gauge on stage start. In versus mode, its effect is to reduce the time before the stage starts shrinking the playing field by a percentage, which can stack with Scuttlebug's versus effect to further reduce the time.

Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
