Vases,[1] also called pots[2][3] or flower pots,[4] are reoccurring objects in the Yoshi series of platformers. Primarily they act as obstacles, containing or being used by enemies against Yoshi. They are identifiable by the large stripe across their middle, and large bouquet of yellow flowers.

History[edit]

Yoshi series[edit]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island[edit]

Many vases appear in The Potted Ghost's Castle, where they can be pushed off ledges to release coins or keys necessary to progress through the level. The level's final boss, Roger the Potted Ghost, is contained in one such vase, being defeated by pushing it off the platform the fight is set on.

Yoshi's Island DS[edit]

Yoshi's Island DS vases appear in Hector the Reflector's Haunted House, where they are primarily carried by Invisighouls. These vases can be eaten by Yoshi and turned into eggs, unlike their previous appearance. Similar vases contain Potted Ghosts.

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

Within the files of Yoshi's New Island is a model of a vase, which is not used in any levels of the game. Its design is much closer to the version seen in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]

In Yoshi's Crafted World, a vase can be found as a craft, with the same design as in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Mario Kart series[edit]

On the Yoshi's Island course in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Kart Tour, two vases can be seen on ledges in front of windows inside the castle.
