Ink

Generic ink appears in the Super Mario franchise, where it is typically produced by species such as Bloopers and Inky Piranha Plants. It is commonly deployed by an opponent or some other source to smudge the player's screen and create a visual obstruction, mainly in Mario Kart games.
History
Mario Kart series
Mario Kart DS introduces the Blooper item to the series, which reappears in many subsequent Mario Kart games. Once deployed, the Blooper attacks every driver in front of the user, coating them with ink and obscuring their view. The ink wears off on its own after a short period, but drivers can clear it early by receiving a boost from a Dash Mushroom or Dash Panel, by transforming into a Bullet Bill, or by activating a Super Star. In Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ink can additionally be cleared away by submerging oneself into water.
Mario Kart Tour
In Mario Kart Tour, the player can fully remove ink from their view with any speed boost, be it from a Mini-Turbo or Jump Boost. Alternatively, they can gradually wipe it off by stroking the screen.
In this game, Inky Piranha Plants spit out blobs of ink that create piles on the ground. The ink piles act similarly to oil slicks and puddles, causing drivers that touch them while in a regular state to spin out, with the additional property of covering their view. If a driver is under the effect of a Mega Mushroom, Super Star, or Frenzy, they can drive over an ink pile completely unaffected. Before reaching the ground, the ink blobs can be destroyed with a Super Horn or Super Bell, awarding bonus points in the process.
Super Mario 3D Land
Super Mario 3D Land debuts Inky Piranha Plants, which attempt to shoot balls of ink directly at the player's screen to obscure their view, as Bloopers do in Mario Kart games. The player can blow into the system's microphone to remove the ink blots or wait for them to fade off on their own. The Inky Piranha Plants face a fixed direction, always aiming where the camera is bound to scroll in front of them; the ink projectiles only splatter across the screen if they cross with the camera, otherwise they despawn.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Ink is employed in Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle as part of a status effect inflicted by several enemies. It physically sticks to a character, though without affecting the player's screen like in other Super Mario games. Characters bogged down with ink can temporarily not use weapons.
