Clothing is a category of items in the Mario & Luigi series that serve much like Armor in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Clothing mainly exists to boost defense power, but some clothes boost other stats such as speed, attack, and others as well. The first two games in the series have overalls as clothing, but Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story features an expanded set of clothing that also includes gloves, socks, boots, and accessories for Mario and Luigi and shells, arm bands, rings, and fangs for Bowser. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team further expands on this by adding hammer as a type of wear.

Clothing in this game can also come with special effects. If a small number is listed in the last column, look at the end of the table for the special effect. All Clothing adds DEF and/or HP to a brother.
Clothing is found usually in various specialty shops, but defeated enemies can sometimes drop clothing.

In this game, clothes only boost stats. There are now two sizes of clothing, the larger type for the adult Mario and Luigi, and the smaller type for Baby Mario and Baby Luigi. Badges are used to get special effects.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Giant Shell
For Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, the clothing system received an overhaul. In this game, there are several different clothing types available. These include overalls, gloves, socks, boots, and accessories for Mario and Luigi, as well as shells, arm bands, rings, and fangs for Bowser. The maximum number of articles of clothing that a character may equip is dependent on rank &ndash; it maxes out at three, but two of the same type of clothing can never be equipped simultaneously. Since the function of badges has also been overhauled, most of badges' old functions are now applied to articles of clothing.

1There is a ? block somewhere in Toad Town containing this as well as it being available in a shop<br>
2Rounded up<br>
3Also available via any Shop Block; certain things become available only when player defeats certain bosses<br>
4These would be the "tiny" enemies Mario & Luigi battle formally but Bowser simply knocks over

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
In Mario and Luigi: Dream Team, clothing was expanded further to the point where the player can now equip various hammers and boots that increase the power of either a brother's jumps or a brother's hammer swings, some of which having a possible special effect stacked on to the extra power (heals when a brother deals damage, may burn, etc.). Like in the previous instalment, there are three apparel gear slots maximum, two that a brother can get when one ranks up, however, this is now only optional due to the added choice of rank-up bonuses. Only the wear, gloves and accessories are the gear types Mario and Luigi may equip.

Clothing is found usually in various specialty shops, but defeated enemies can sometimes drop clothing.
