History

Paper Mario

In Paper Mario, Swoopulas appear in the Crystal Palace. At the start of battle, Swoopulas are perched on the ceiling and can be knocked down with an item, Special Move, certain partner moves, or the Quake Hammer or Hammer Throw abilities. They fly down briefly to attack, but return to their roost unless previously knocked down. They leech two hit points at a time up to five times unless an Action Command gauge is filled up first, similar to Jungle Fuzzy.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Swoopulas appear in the Palace of Shadow and slightly late in the Pit of 100 Trials and start battle in the air rather than on the ceiling. Their leeching move now takes four hit points, but is only used once per turn. An even stronger version known as Swampire appears near the end of the Pit of 100 Trials.

Max HP: 8, Attack Power: 2, Defense Power: 0 Hit A Button repeatedly to fight it off or else it'll keep sucking your HP. You can't jump high enough to attack them while they're hanging from the ceiling. An earthquake attack ought to work, though. Flying party members, like Bow or Parakarry, can also attack them with ease. If they fall and begin to flap around, you can attack them by jumping as well.
