"Slider,"[1][2][3][4] also known as simply "Slide,"[5][6] is a musical theme composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario 64. It is a frantic bluegrass/country interpretation of the game's "Main Theme" motif, played in D major at a presto tempo. The melody is played on fiddle, and the countermelody on whistle, with banjo, piano, acoustic bass, and drumset as accompaniment. The name "slider" is used in Japanese for the "slide" type of level. The theme plays in the following levels, areas, and missions:

Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario 64[edit]
Super Mario 64 marks the first appearance of "Slider," and it returns for the same purpose in the Nintendo DS remake, Super Mario 64 DS, and the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario 3D All-Stars. In Super Mario 64 DS, the theme also plays in Battle Fort and in all four stages in Vs. mode. It is also included in the following official albums:

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
In Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the Nintendo Switch port, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, an arrangement of "Slider" plays during the slide in Tall Trunk Galaxy and while rolling the Star Ball in Rolling Coaster Galaxy. It is simply titled "Slider" in the Nintendo Music app, and it was arranged by Mahito Yokota. It is also included in the official Super Mario Galaxy 2 Original Soundtrack album.
In Rolling Coaster Galaxy, the theme adjusts in tempo and intensity to match the speed of the ball, fading into a sparse version played on sine synthesizer, two recorders, and harp if it is kept still, and increasing in speed (affecting the pitch continuously, as opposed to an increase in tempo) when the ball accelerates down the rail launchers.

Super Mario 3D World[edit]

In Super Mario 3D World, an arrangement of "Slider" with guitar and bongo accompaniment plays while riding Plessie in Plessie's Plunging Falls, Sunshine Seaside, and Plessie's Dune Downhill. It is titled "Plessie's Plunging Falls" in the official Super Mario 3D World Original Soundtrack album, and it was arranged by Mahito Yokota.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]
In Super Mario Maker 2, the original version of "Slider" plays whenever the "Super Mario 64" sound effect is triggered.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, an arrangement of "Slider" plays in the Bonus: Coins Galore! bonus stage. It is likewise titled "Bonus: Coins Galore!" in the Nintendo Music app. The cannons fire coins and the Talking Flowers chant to the rhythm of the theme.

In Nintendo Land, an arrangement of "Slider" arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu plays on the Slide Hill stage of Mario Chase. This arrangement also incorporates the first six notes of "Ground BGM" from Super Mario Bros. at the beginning. The tempo increases when the timer reaches 60 and 30 seconds.

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games[edit]
In Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, a big band arrangement of "Slider" can be chosen as the background music for events. It opens with an original introduction played on trumpet and electric guitar, the former of which is used for the main melody for the remainder of the song, and trumpet, saxophone, and electric guitar solos are added partway through the song. It is titled "Slide: Super Mario 64 (Remix)" in the game's sound test.

In Mario Kart World, a ska arrangement of "Slider" in C major can play in Free Roam and during routes in Grand Prix or VS Race. In Grand Prix, it is one of the themes that can play on the route from Starview Peak to Sky-High Sundae in the Star Cup.
