A vector graphic of two arrows, one red and one blue, pointing away from one another, with a purple and white circle in the middle. It has been suggested that this page be split into Red Space, Danger Space. Reason: The possibility of being sent back to the start of the board is a major functionality difference. It's less a redesign and more that they used the design of an existing space for a Danger Space. (discuss)

Red Spaces (or red spaces), known as minus spaces in Mario Party 5 and Lose Coins Spaces in Mario Party 10, are spaces in the Mario Party series. When a player lands on a Red Space, they will lose coins (three to twelve, depending on the game and the specific circumstances). In Mario Party 7 and Mario Party 8, a Bonus Star may be awarded to the player who lands on the most Red Spaces. Also, like with all of the other spaces in Mario Party 8, the shape is different on each board, including the tutorial. In Mario Party 9, Red Spaces have been replaced by Mini Ztar Spaces. Red Spaces reappear in Mario Party: Island Tour, where they are known as Danger Spaces and appear 12 times only in Banzai Bill's Mad Mountain. These spaces may hurt the chance of advancing, as they are crossed by a Banzai Bill when it is launched.

Naming[edit]

In Mario Party 5, these spaces are referred to as "minus spaces" in Eldstar's explanation of them in the rules board[1] and in a message in Bowser Nightmare after the effects of Bowser's walk from a ? space wear off.[2] However, they are instead referred to as "red spaces" during the Last Five Turns Event[3][4] and the Party Mode results screen.[5]
