Roulette (Mario Party series)

The roulette, also referred to as a spinner and the wheel of chance (Mario Party 6), determines player selection for certain item effects in Mario Party 4, Mario Party 5, and Mario Party 6. It is split into three parts containing the character's head and the background color associated with the character (in Mario Party 4 and Mario Party 5). There is a pointer that turns rapidly clockwise. Pressing the button slows the arrow and stops it, landing on a character's head. In spite of what the naming from Mario Party 6 suggests, the spinner's behavior is predictable and can be timed.
In Mario Party 4, the spinner is shown when players trigger the Warp Space or use the Warp Pipe or Swap Card. The arrow spins in a clockwise direction. If is pressed on a character's head, the roulette continues for roughly 225 degrees before stopping on the player before the selected head. Therefore, if the player wants to stop on a specific head, they should press
on the head after the desired head. If the player waits one minute, the pointer stops on the bottom player. The spinner is themed after Stars.
In Mario Party 5, the roulette is shown when players trigger the effects of a Warp Pipe Capsule, Klepto Capsule, Goomba Capsule, or Spiny Capsule. Its behavior is the same as in Mario Party 4, but with a different design, with the Stars being replaced with simple dots. The spinner also appears in Sweet Dream if the player lands at the topmost ? Space. It triggers an event where the person who landed on the space can steal one capsule, 10 coins, or one Star from other players. The spinner behaves differently, picking between 50 and 225 degrees to slide after the player stops it. If anticipating the 50 degree slide, the player should stop the spinner at the second half of the space before the desired one or the first half of the desired space.
In Mario Party 6, players use the roulette, referred to as the "wheel of chance" in the instruction booklet, when they activate the Warp Pipe Orb. The timing of selecting a character's head has been changed. Instead, players press on the head before the desired target rather than after. Similar to Mario Party 4 and Mario Party 5, the spinner always lands on the bottom player after a minute passes. The spinner again has a redesign, with the base of the spinner having the sun symbol while the pointer is a moon symbol. Characters do not use their specific colors for the background, with instead the parts having a fixed light color.
