Battle text, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Slow is a status ailment found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Paper Mario. In the former game, it is indicated by a sad purple face. When afflicted, the victim can only attack once every other turn. Beldam is the only one who can give this status ailment to Mario or his partner.

If the Koopa Curse item is hacked into the game, Mario or his partner can inflict the Slow status directly. However, there is a way to do this indirectly, through normal means: Mario or his partner must confuse an enemy capable of causing Slow (Beldam) with something like Ruin Powder or Head Rattle, so it can cast the ailment on an adjacent foe.

The status ailment reoccurs in the sequel, Super Paper Mario. In this game, it is indicated by a blue wavy arrow and the word "Slow", and the afflicted's jumps and movement are slower. The player character receives it if they jump on the common Cursya enemy, even if they use Carrie. One of Count Bleck's moves applies a similar effect to this status.

If a target has the Slow status effect and is bestowed with Fast, the two effects cancel each other out.
