Big Lava Bubbles are larger versions of Lava Bubbles that first appear in Mario Party.

History

Mario Party series

Mario Party / Mario Party 2

In Mario Party, two big Lava Bubbles are seen in the minigame Hot Rope Jump. They stand fixed at the ends of a jump rope formed by smaller Lava Bubbles, spinning it around the characters. As the minigame returns in Mario Party 2, the big Lava Bubbles reappear with the same role.

Mario Party 3

Hyper Hydrants

Two giant Lava Bubbles are present in Hyper Hydrants, a minigame from Mario Party 3. Each of them confronts a pair of characters by continuously sending moving flames at them. The flames can be doused by having one player pump water and the other player use it to spray the flames via a hose. The giant Lava Bubbles are stationary and will disappear after the minigame ends.

Mario Party Superstars

Big Lava Bubbles reappear in Mario Party Superstars, reprising their roles in the Mario Party 2 version of Hot Rope Jump.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS / Super Mario Maker 2

Lava Bubbles can be enlarged with a Super Mushroom and become Big Lava Bubbles in Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker 2. They act the same as their smaller counterparts, jumping repeatedly out of the lava at the height they are placed. They can likewise be loaded into Warp Pipes and Bill Blasters, but emerge from them with more difficulty than normal Lava Bubbles.

Paper Mario: Color Splash

Redpepper Crater from Paper Mario: Color Splash

A single Big Lava Bubble appears in Paper Mario: Color Splash as a mini boss in Redpepper Crater. He is angry at Mario for breaking into his home and is accompanied by a Shy Guy that interprets his rumble-based speech. In battle, he can attack by turning red and shooting out flames, causing damage to both Mario and the Shy Guy. He can also attack by flying at Mario, just like normal Lava Bubbles, doing 15 HP of damage. He can only be damaged by Ice Flowers, Hurlhammers, Things, and Iron Jumps.
